1. I was wondering if anyone knew of a device that could be plugged straight into a bass and used for practice- like a mini amp, using headphones of course. I'm sure I saw one of these a while ago, but I can't remember where. Any ideas?
2. Wow. That's awesome. I haven't actually seen any live footage of Jamerson playing... it's pretty good!
3. Cheers guys. I'm guessing it's not a cheap addition to an already pretty expensive instrument.
4. I'm not really complaining, just thought I'd grab your attention. What's going on here? [image taken from the PPL website]
5.
Good Double Bass teacher required for beginner!
Hey there. I'm certainly not good enough to teach you, but my tutor's pretty damn good. I'm not sure what his stance is regarding private tutoring, I get taught by him in college you see, but drop him an e-mail and ask. Tell him I gave you his e-mail, he'll act less surprised then! It's [email protected]

Pre-amps
DI is basically about converting to a balanced signal - usually to run a fair distance to a desk channel. Traditionally they have lots of attenuation (Pad) options so that you could use (say) the speaker feed of a rig as an input. Your preamp might have a balanced output (or an option for one) in which case you could view it as a DI with-bells-on.
Cheers for the answer! I thought it would be a DI with bells on - which would be very useful! I suppose I'm asking whether the circuit inside adds something other than just a level boost, like a certain tone.

Pre-amps

I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to the complex world of electronics, and I have a question for those in the know. I know that pre-amps amplify the low level signal to line level, with the added benefit of some tone shaping in the form of EQ. If I'm doing some home or even studio recording, what's the real difference between a pre-amp and a DI box (apart from the obvious EQ)? I was interested in getting the old Sadowsky pre-amp pedal, because I've heard good things about it, but I don't really understand what it will do for me.
8. You're in love with a deformed tiger!
9. I have no friends... but hey, it's the internet - nobody really has any friends on here until they have actually met! http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...mp;#entry353904
10. Obviously the gear stealing b*stards have had enough of you refusing to let them use your kit! There's some good videos up there Dave, keep up the good work.
11.

It's a midget playing a mandolin!
12. Signed, sealed, delivered. I'm yours. They have these things in my college. They suck! All you have to do is clap and suddenly your deafening everyone around you, apparently.
13. Bought two 5m Jacks. Fast, reliable and with good communication. What more could you wish for? Plus, the package managed to fit through the letterbox, so no rubbish hassle with signing! Excellent work!
14. I am very jealous of you right now! I love the Stingray, awesome finish. Also, why is very end of the neck on the Sheehan bass cut away (after the scalloped frets)?

Hi

My brother's called Hector. Never thought I'd meet another one! Welcome.
16. I've got an EH Mini Q-Tron I'm looking to sell. Would you be interested?
17.
You still haven't explained what actually happened, just made an initial strongly worded post then revised it, without any details about what the original issue was.
I think that's a bit of an unfair statement. I would like to point out something from a previous post of yours: 'it is an inherent mistrust issue with extremely valid underpinning reasons', in relation to doctors being 'c*nts'. In the topic, you made this initially strongly worded post and didn't give specific details. I'm sure Mac Daddy doesn't want to go into specific details, but I'm sure they're valid too.
18. My apologies. I didn't realise there were 3 pages, and made the comment based on the first page.
19.
I didn't expect YOU to bother listening to the fact that I have an innate FEAR of going near a doctor. Practical advice on adapting/working around is what I am after, not your pathetic criticism.
That's some bad attitude! People are giving you practical advice. There's no need to react with such animosity. Seeing a doctor or a physiotherapist is practical advice - they are experts on these things after all.
20.
Erm, no I don't. Name & shame dude!
I'm not sure I should! I'm sure it'll come back 'round on me somehow.... But what the hell - it was Music Ground.
21. It is quite incredible, isn't it! I really don't get why these people feel they have to treat customers in this way - there is literally no advantage to behaving like this! I went into a shop in Leeds (those of you from Leeds will know which one I'm talking about) to look at amp heads and cabs, since I'd been saving for one. I saw a really nice Eden setup (something like the world tour 1000 and a 4x10) and asked if I could have a play. I got the question 'are you going to buy it mate?'. WTF! How the hell do I know when I've never tried it! As soon as you mention your budget (specifically if it's large), you'll get all the help you need. These people complain of the internet ruining their businesses. It's not, THEY ARE!
22.
I think they quite like it over on TB though. Weirdos.
Well, they are American.
23. I've had this problem. Mr Lager's suggestion of moving the Pup closer might work. Also, try moving the Pup slightly away from the other strings to maybe get the balance right. Are you using a compressor when you're playing?
24. Hello there Basschaters. I'm playing a gig in Nottingham with my covers band Just Here For The Sandwiches (JHFTS or just The Sandwiches). We're playing at Stone (the BRB bar) on the 27th of December from around 9. Check out the event on Facebook! Come down and say hey. We've got a set list to be proud of!
