1. Been doing some research into 'dyeing' or staining rosewood boards, I dislike really cheap looking light boards.most info seems to be based in the us,just wondered if anyone here had tried it? Have applied lemon oil but doesn't make it proper dark, not looking for ebony black just that nice dark brown found on old fenders. This seems to get good reviews... http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=350989991544 Thanks!
2. Bloody hell that first pic certainly got my attention, that looks stunning!
3. What wattage is it mate?and quick measure width n height ( see if matches my existing cab :-)) I'm just outside mk too

5. Yes I dug my old pups out to try, as Iv said I'm sure I'm just missing something (or worse, the pick ups are shoddy). Fingers crossed I'm just being abit thick, not a massive fan of electrics
6.
The erless kit only removes the need for a soldering iron. It doesn't change where the cables need to go. Maybe you should meet up with another BCer nearby who knows what he's doing. Otherwise If all else fails, send me the bass. I'll wire it and send it back working, for the cost of the shipping back to you.
I see your in herts,I'm working down near Watford / hemel alot soon, not near you at all? Il take it to the local music shop, although I don't have 100% faith in them if I'm honest . Instructions as follows, from a very reputable supplier so think the pots are ok
7.
Just reading the scan of the pickup wiring instructions from DiMarzio that you posted. You have the green wire from the pickups going to totally the wrong place. It should be soldered to the back of the volume potentiometer. The Red wire goes to the centre tag of the volume pot.
But doesn't these solderless kits do away with that and change the position to the two 'holes '
8. Thr plot thickens... Not sure if this is happening since I just wired it as described above,or has been the whole time..but with the tone on full, the volumes seem to work as they should, gradual increases.then with the tone off the problem persists. I can play a note, with the volumes on half (so not audible) then bring the tone up and the volume increases with it?!
9.
Here's the link to the wiring diagrams on the DiMarzio web site. http://www.dimarzio....-diagrams#1-6-2 Reading the 2 top circuits: 2 Humbucker Bass Set (Parallel), 2 Volumes, 1 Tone 2 Humbucker Bass Set (Pickups Wired in Parallel), 2 Volumes, Master Tone They say the black and green should be soldered together and connected to ground/earth. - You have green to the pot. They say the red and white should be connected to the centre terminal on the volume p May I suggest you start again with the wiring diagrams? Good luck
I will give this a try. Iv seen about 6 differing instructions from dimarzio, not very helpful of them!cheers
10. The black bridge ground wire is put into the pot negative with the green pick up wire.I think il have to take it to a music shop and get them to have a look. Is the linear /long pot theory not applicable any more? Thanks so much for your help BRX
11.
Why are the red and green wires swapped round on the second volume pot? I can see a black wire connected to the same terminal as the red one on the first volume pot - where does it go?
That was me just trying different things. The extra black wire is the bridge ground from the bridge. Yes pre attached to bell plate, These are the instructions with the pups. 12. This is how the pots were supplied, and it seems like everything is wired up as it should be so I'm baffled. I might re fit the original pick ups to these new pots ,see if that sheds any light on which part is not doing what it should
13. So each pick up has a red n green wire, but also a black one and a white one, these two are soldered together and left,as per instructions Thanks alot
14. So each pick up has a red n green wire, but also a black one and a white one, these two are soldered together and left,as per instructions Thanks alot
15.
Sounds like you have linear rather than log pots. What's the letter suffix on the pot after the value - A or B?
All 3 pots have this stamped on them.. 450S2774 250k 1320 CTS So neither A or B Thanks for your help Simon
16.
The resistance on a pot can be logarithmic, rather than linear. On the pots you have 3 terminals. Try changing the connections by swapping the 2 end ones over. It may mean that the knob may work the opposite way to that which logic would tell you, but it might sort the problem.
I tried this and nothing changed at all,not even how the knobs worked
17. Played my Epi quite abit yesterday (just before selling it!) and Id forgotten how nice the sound actually was. Need to watch the qc I think, and the bridges are terrible. Had a Gibson a few years ago, very nice bass, thr neck was super thin, what I assume the geddy lee jazz is like. The quality was alot better than the Epi,but not as much as the price difference would suggest. Coolest looking basses out there I think
18. I'm still no wiser as to the problem here. My local music shop thinks they are thr wrong type of pots but I'm not convinced. They are marked 250k CTS pots. The tone rolls on and off smoothly but thr pick ups are still nothing nothing nothing boom, full volume. Any suggestions? Thanks
19. I saw a 77 jazz in my local music shop yesterday, for 1200 notes. Had a replacement bridge and a seriously ill-fitting replacement pick guard. Surely that just slashes the price right down.I think it's only worth buying if all the bits are original
20. So if the,I assume fender, pick guards fit around the neck snug it looks hopeful the neck pocket will be similar, fancy a blue one to stick my CV jazz rosewood neck on you see. Mmmmm
21.
If I were going to have eight 10s I`d do in a 2 x 410 configuration so I had the option of using one cab for gigs where both weren`t going to be needed.
This, iv played gigs to 30 people in tiny tiny pubs, lugging a 810 in knocking tables and people left right n centre got old.great standing infront of one on a decent stage though. sold mine and only use a 410 now Though I am looking for a 210 now, just to get the volume more head height
22.
It's more backseat friendly?
I thought I had a girlfriend like that once, turns out she was just fat
