  1. Very sad to read this. I was never what you might call a fan of Budgie, but was aware of them, and they still crop up on those late night compilation programmes. He seems a very decent and philosophical bloke, I hope things improve for him. https://www.msn.com/en-gb/entertainment/music/singer-of-70s-rock-legends-budgie-says-hes-suffering-from-a-life-threatening-condition/ar-BBZOjhn?ocid=spartandhp
  2. Thank you very kindly Beer of the Bass
  3. I have now got the speaker wired up, thanks to those who offered advice on how to do that, it's not one of my confident areas, much appreciated. I thought I would do it while I was waiting for the grille cloth which I had ordered, to arrive from USA, however while I was out watching the man cub playing football, this morning, this arrived, left in the porch. Very pleased with this, looks great and no import duty to pay! Best get on with it!
  4. I like this thread I saw U2 supporting the Police at Gateshead Stadium in the early 80's, I think it was near the end of the Police and Sting's singing was flat as a witches tit. I had heard of U2, but never heard any songs, but they were far better. Gone right off them now, ironically! Sophie Ellis Bextor supporting George Michael at Home Park in Plymouth, yes, George was THAT bad! Bonnie Raitt supporting Clapton and Elton John at Wembley, they were all excellent, but Bonnie Raitt was stellar. Robert Cray supporting BB King at the Hammersmith Odeon (I think?)…..Robert Cray was fantastic, but BB King made the hair on the back of my neck stand up, with the first note, just like Peter Green did.
  5. What a good idea...………...
  6. Mmmmmmn, how right you are, I wonder if they will damage to order?

    Ampeg B15

You might find some information here, as far as I am aware, different models, or years of manufacture, used different speakers https://www.talkbass.com/threads/official-ampeg-portaflex-club.437266/
  10. Thank you very kindly BlueMoon, it's means a lot more when a compliment comes from someone who really knows
  11. Mine has a different mark on the bottom of the heel, but that's not to say that the maker didn't alter the logo at some point, taking into account your neck is older, after all Fender have been known to alter their logo from time to time! That aside, making a neck with this kind of fingerboard would be both costlier and more difficult, so it's fair to assume it's not a budget neck, it certainly looks authentic, the whole bass does.
  12. Thank you very much Reggaebass, that's very kind of you
  13. Lovely looking bass The neck may be from Musikraft in the USA. I got one from them last year for a '64 spec build I did, and after loads of searching they were the only company I could find offering a vintage spec round laminate fingerboard. Some pics of it here if it helps
  14. Nice one, I like a good music biography, should be a good read
  15. Just spent 10 minutes watching this, about my favourite drummer. Some quite nice things said about him by his old mate Bernie Marsden. Worth a watch, it always struck me how he could swing, but still be Cozy Powell, a talented man.
  16. Thank you kindly bertbass
  17. The back panel is also now covered, once again I used masking tape to help to get the square pattern lined up. I'm not quite sure what kind of foam to use around the inside of the cab, where the back panel is secured into place, so I am going to try out some the heaviest duty foam strip for sealing doorframes and suchlike, which I found in Wickes. I will put it around the perimeter on the inside of the back panel and also on the inside of the cab where the bolts screw in. I'm hoping that with two thicknesses of this foam, which is quite thick, pressed together with machine screws all around the edge, it should be airtight. Please let me know if you can recommend anything better.
  18. Lovely
  19. I must admit putting on the tolex was the part I was dreading, I have never done it before and, with good reason, I wasn't relishing the challenge of getting a reasonable result. I once tiled a kitchen floor with those brick sized tiles and although I had marked out datum lines, they didn.t quite lie parallel with the kitchen units, and your eye was drawn to it, to the point where I had to take them up and start again..(we're all a bit OCD aren't we?...……..please agree!!!!) Anyway, the checkered pattern on this tolex was a nightmare to get in line with the edges of the cab, and the problem is, you can't lie it down and then slide it about till it looks right, once the surfaces have glue on them the bloody stuff sticks like stinky poo to a carpet! I used a couple of strips of masking tape to make the lines more visible and with a LOT of trial and error got it looking square all round. I started at the top and worked around to the bottom, so that the joint would be at the bottom, out of sight. Once I got started it all went better than I was expecting and I actually enjoyed doing it. I should think doing a cab with ordinary grained tolex would be a bit easier, as you wouldn't be concerned about keeping the squares in line. I used a heat gun to soften it up around the recessed plug socket and then loosely screwed it into place to hold it down Got to clean the excess glue up a bit and then fit the corner pieces and a couple of nice leather handles on the top. Today I will try to get the back panel done, it's just a flat square panel, and then stick on the spongey sealing strip.
  20. That's very kind, thank you
  21. Nice, is yours going to be along the lines of the MM4-T on his website?
  22. Now it's time to apply the tolex. I managed to get this very reasonably priced on Ebay from a bloke in Germany who had some left over at the end of a renovation on a vintage cab, avoiding having to order it from the US and the additional costs involved. It actually looks dark blue in natural light, but this doesn't show up so much in photos. Looks very cool though! I have never tolexed anything before, so I am busy Youtubing before I dive in!
