Next time you have a little money for strings, try flatwounds. They don't suffer from this issue. Though they don't sound like roundwounds either.

Yeah...the reason I was boiling them was because they sounded like flats instead of rounds. The moment a string loses its zing I feel the need to replace it

  2. I used my ACG at a gig the same day I got it because I was so excited to use it.

Part of me is glad I did and another part of me realised very quickly that it takes at least a few days to properly figure out how to use a filter preamp that has 6 different tone control knobs.

  3. Sorry to be a bit cheeky with this post but I've became rather curious about the Maruszczyk Elwood 5 string basses over the last few weeks to the point where I'm actually considering selling my Dingwall to get one but I've never actually played one.

Are there any owners near Glasgow/surrounding areas who would let me try theirs? Normally I wouldn't ask but I don't know how else I could try one and I don't really want to sell a bass to fund it then realise I don't like them!

    Will provide biscuits.

    Thanks
    Cameron

Is it me, or is it increasingly a problem with a lot of modern rock bands? I'm basing a lot of this on groups who are "breaking through/on the way up" that I've seen live (and not knowing their studio albums in many cases), but I've found a lot of them sound like they're repeating themselves after the second song.

(Or am I just turning into a grumpy old git?)

I find this is a common thing when I see a lot of new bands. I often can't really distinguish much differences other than the key of the song.

Are you in a band? If not join one now!

Yup. Playing with other musicians is one sure way to improve your playing. As well that, it's bloody good fun if you get in a band with people who you get on with.

Three years isn't a huge amount of time to become super proficient on an instrument as Douglas said.

There has been the odd time where I was a bit fed up with it but found that giving it a break for a week or so, or trying things completely new and out my comfort zone.

I am not metal at all, whatever my score might turn out to be.

Apart from anything else, how metal is taking BBC quizzes online? When the pubs are open, even.

I done the quiz whilst in a pub...I didn't do very well though.

So I'm confused about where I stand here!

(Said to you during break before your second set).
"We will say goodbye now in case we don't get chance at the end" = "We are going 5 seconds after you start your second set"

I have to do this a lot (although I generally stay for at least 2 songs). Completely down to the fact that I need to get public transport everywhere though.
