  1. 37" - Dingwall.

on a non-fan fretted instrument I prefer 34" scale though. Mainly because I find the G/D strings to not feel as good on them. But there will always be basses of both scales that feel and sound brilliant. Construction/build quality has more to play into it than scale length IMO.

Awesome! I will be very interested in their bass when it is available!

The neck is basically completely flat at the place where you anchor your thumb all the way up, isn't it? And that flatness rotates as you go down the neck? Crazy concept, Id like to try it.

Spot on Kev. You can tell the neck is different from normal but when you're playing it, it feels natural.

I also find it easier to play than any 6 string guitar I've played. I guess the longer scale (28" on the F#) and thicker neck is just more what I'm already used to.

Despite me being a bit of a traditionalist where guitars are concerned, I have to say that that's really nice!

    Expensive? Spill the beans!

It wasn't a budget guitar by any means.

  4. So a while back I had the intention of learning guitar and bought an Ibanez s470 guitar but a few issues with my health and the fact I didn't really enjoy playing that guitar for some reason stopped me from really going anywhere with it.

As my health has picked up recently amongst other things (probation passed at work being the main one) I decided I would treat myself to a guitar that I would actually want to play. So here I am with a lovely guitar.

I realised that one of the main reasons I couldn't get on with the Ibanez was the fact that most of the music I listen to use extended range guitars so having a 6 string meant I couldn't really play a lot of what I would like to.

I decided I would make life hard for myself and learn guitar on an 8 string fan fretted guitar with a bizarre (but VERY comfortable) neck profile.

Enough of me speaking. Here's the guitar - Strandberg Boden OS 8

So far I'm actually enjoying playing music on my own again and in the few days I've owned it I've put a fair few hours into it and already starting to see improvements.

For the record. I'm learning how to play the whole instrument and not just the lower two strings!

  5. So basically I just ordered a really nice guitar and have the intention of learning the thing but I don't have an amp/cab/combo.

Normally for bass I just practice plugged straight into an interface and into reaper but I get away with that because I don't really need any effects etc but it'll be different with guitar.

I'm really looking to be able to get as many sounds as I want from it...a lot of metal tones likely but good clean tones are a must as well.

So my options are (I think) get something like the Line 6 Pod HD500X and practice as I do with bass or get an amp/cab/combo.

I really have no idea where to start though...any help is appreciated!

  6. I played a 6 string one of these last week and really liked it. Normally I don't like the sounds of Bartoninis (in anything other than Roscoes) but it did sound different that the other ones I tried...I was tempted...

I am a big fan of Rattlesnake leads, but they can work out a little expensive after delivery/customs.

Nothing wrong with OBBM cables :)

I bought a rattlesnake lead off Kev a good few years ago now and an definitely a fan. Haven't tried OBBM but he'll likely be my next port of call when I need a new cable.

  8. I much prefer having the tone controls on the bass as opposed to a pedal for the simple reason of its easier to change on the fly, which is something I do quite often with my band.

I find the whole "fiddling with it too much" thing a weird concept. Just get a sound that works then leave it?

  9. I do have a darkglass for when I want serious grit in the sound but my only always on pedal is the TC Hyper Gravity compressor. I've set it in such a way that if you really really dig in it actually adds a little grit to the sound so I can get that when I need as it's always on but can have a super clean sound by just easing up a little.
