Wood isn't always going to be consistent. You get some heavier slabs of it than others.

I have moved from the MXR compressor to the TC hyper gravity and I prefer the TC. I think part of this is because it doesn't have the LEDs so I rely more on my ear.

Saying that, the MXR is a brilliant pedal and I would thoroughly recommend it.

Everyweek we debate which day we will rehearse and yet every rehearsal we have is a Thursday.

This is basically what I do. Certain songs suit a more "round" tone so I'll jump to the neck pickup a bit more and vise versa for a more defined sound.

There is a lot you can change simply by changing your right hand.

If the core tone is good the rest will be good.

I hate having a bass that isn't versatile.

Basses can have very signature sounds and still be versatile to me though. A stingray is the ideal example.

I think I've found the ultimate versatility in my ACG. Being able to control how both pickups sound independently is superb.

Listen to them on Spotify and work them out by ear. Any I struggle with to get down quickly I would look on YouTube for any covers.

Then fix the bits that weren't right.

I haven't played with the highest string tuned up but I do quite enjoy playing tuned B E A D F.

Having a change in what you're used to from time to time keeps it interesting I think.

I constantly look like a miserable bastard but my band plays quite a lot of upbeat funky silly music so it doesn't really work live. Although we've been told that because the guitarist goes nuts live then the contrast between us actually works. I should say as well that I love playing gigs. Otherwise I would have no reason to do them...god knows I don't do it for financial reasons.

Still wish I could smile from time to time.

My ACG. The sound is like no other bass I've ever used. Mega punchy and articulate but incredibly versatile thanks to the myriad of controls on the filter preamp.

As well as sounding excellent it plays incredibly well and looks (to me) very pretty. The only thing I would change would be the finish on the neck that I find gets a bit sticky if you're sweating whilst playing, but that could be eased a lot by simply sanding the neck a little.

Any good instrument is built to play.

I finally got round to putting these on the ACG today and used them at todays rehearsal. First impressions are very good. They definitely sound different to what I'm used to (Elixirs) but I like it! The tension feels considerably lighter as well but with no real loss of low end. It's the first set of Nickels I have used in about 3 years as well (I think it is at least).

Depending on how long they stay sounding fresh for, I could see myself buying these in future. Will report back once I've given them some more use.

There has only ever been one band to even come close to bringing a tear to my eye and it is Agent Fresco (who succeeded). I saw them play 2 sets at Tech-fest last year and both sets had me -and just about everybody else- blubbing.

From the gigs I've been to there is usually one "crowd killer" but they usually get told their place pretty quickly

The one I tried is one of the only 3 Jazz basses I've played that I actually enjoyed playing. The other two being a Sadowsky and a Spector (so 9/10 times the price minimum)

Squier vm jazz basses are surprisingly good. I've played a good few expensive and vintage Fenders and all of them have been horrendous except the squier.

I think normal Thunderbirds look ridiculous but that one actually looks not bad. The body flows a lot better with the fan frets. I also think the headstock is fairly nice.

Why would people want the massive t-bird headstock?

I'd rather that than sunburst though.

Whenever I've bought a bass that has came with a case I've always sold it on (usually with another bass right enough). I don't see a point in having a case lying around doing nothing when I'm always just going to take the Mono with me.

I would be surprised if they didn't go up in price eventually. Everything seems to be raising in price and Maruszczyk basses seem to be becoming very popular.

I also have a large desire for an Elwood L 5 stringer. although a longer scale and an active preamp. I feel your pain!
