  1. Man, that's incredible! Cut yourself some slack! Next week you'll be saying: "why don't I have chops like Janek?" Seriously well done!
  2. To all those interested, I went through with the trade and I've ended up wih a beautiful bass which I prefer to my Marcus Miller already, so a big win!
  3. I played one a couple of years ago. If only I was wiser back then!
  4. Wish I could afford this! Just got myself a 5er too... This is a truly amazing bass! Don't be put off by the looks! (I'm not, I love them!)
  5. Thanks so much guys! You've been so helpful! One last question to the Lakky owners, what do you think about the 19mm spacing at the bridge?
  6. Loving the intense debate while I was at rehearsals Firstly, I bought the MM because I played one in NYC and loved the neck, I was lucky in the fact that the one I ordered had a similar neck. This may be blasphemy, but I'm not a fan of the bridge pickup placement or the pickup itself. The whole thing is way too bright for me. I was young naive, and had some money to buy a bass with. I want a five string because I play a tonne of session stuff that needs that low end, and I see this bass as a good option as I'm working towards being a session player, playing groove based jazz funk and gospel, not a virtuoso. Any more thoughts?
  7. Ahh ok, that's one sweet deal for that bass! I've seen them on here for 750 for the last 6 months so just assumed that it was. I've always like bartolonis but the covers don't really work on the standard jazzes for me. John east makes some sweet preamps. I would just buy one of those for my MM, but I've been meaning to move to 5 strings for a while...
  8. Not a fan of the Marcus tone, the preamp isn't great, and the pickups are a bit out of my taste. On the plus side the neck is a beaut...
  9. Unfortunately not man I'm don't know what to do then...
  10. Thanks guys, unfortunately trying out he bass before is not a viable option, so any thoughts as I'm not 100% satisfied with my bass at the moment
  11. This can be so many things, and as much as I live to promote the DIY approach to bass, as it improves your knowledge of how your instrument works, I would say take it into a good guitar store (bass store preferably) and ask for you bass to have its action, truss rod and intonation looked at. I've found that this is the most common problem when it comes to fret buzz. EDIT: +1 to the above comment. A bit of fret buzz is natural...
  12. Thanks for the reply, Unfortunately I haven't and as it's in Somerset and I'm in Hull it doesn't look likely... I've listened to tonnes of laklands sound clips on their website, and it sounds brilliant. With the extra money I could afford to but a decent active preamp in it (if I want to) or some other pickups (again if I want to). Thanks
  13. I currently own a Marcus Miller Fender Jazz (white) and have been talking about trading my bass for a lakland skyline JO 5. I have been looking to move to 5 string for a while, but after doing some research, these basses seem cheaper than mine... (so cash would be involved in the trade) I have been hoping to progress in quality of bass every time I get a new one (I'm a music student) but is this a step backwards/sidewards? Any help or comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Alec

Also, guessing that this is a 35" scale then?
  15. What's the minimum string spacing it can go to? 17?

I have a white Marcus miller jazz bass. 4 string though.
  18. Ok guys, I have bought an absolutely beautiful bass recently, but the previous owner for some reason had emg 40hz s but in it (on a bass that cost over 2 grand) so I want to swap these out. I have found that I am a bartolini person so I have looked at their options for this size rout and it comes down to this: The m45cbc The 72m45c The xx45c And the xx45m Does anyone know how these pickups sound? I know the specs of the pickups, just not the sound that they'll produce. Any reccomendations? (I have a 5 string with a low B by the way) Thanks
  19. Hey man, what's the space between the pickups? (I mean from the inside of each pickups) Thanks
  20. This is only a couple of pounds cheaper that a certain online retailer. You might have more luck if you drop the price a bit...
