3. Brilliant thread, well done mate. I built a 1x18 bass cab a few years back, fantastic feeling when it was done and I first gigged it.
4. Absolute star, and seemed very down to earth as well. I have an idea that if I phoned Fender up and asked them to send me a Jaco to try, they might just tell me to get stuffed. Got the new album and not really got into it yet, I prefer the older synthy stuff. Nice interview though.
5. Paul Welcome to the show, good to have you around. John
6.
I agree with Endorka and Lfalex. I try to avoid learning songs using open strings, because I can guarantee that when I get to the gig or rehearsal, the singer will change the key, and I'll be in trouble!
+1 on that, I've had problems just recently with 2 different bands I play in where they have started to play songs in the wrong key. Both times we just carried on playing with the usual "shocked - knowing" glances. I've not moved away from using open strings with any thought, I just found myself doing it once I moved onto 5 and 6 string basses. Nothing wrong with playing open strings though.
7.
Is that 36 or 18v ? Love the angled top.
Steve, I have no idea what the voltage is, I just told Jon what pups and tone control I wanted based on a sound clip on his site, and left him to it. To be honest, I never take much notice of the technical side.
8. Congratulations, your right, the stock jazz is fantastic. can't wait to see the thread develop.
9. I've had Status basses for years and was about to have another one made when Dood got me onto Shukers. If I had gone ahead with the Status build it would have been a pretty much stock sounding instrument, sure, I would have chosen the woods, but apart from that it would have been stock. This is in no way knocking Status, I've had 3 basses off them from new direct from the factory and Rob and Dawn are fantasic. With my Shuker, I have picked everything including pups, electrics, woods, finishes etc, and its come in a lot cheaper than the Status would have been. The beauty of Shukers, Sei etc is that you get what YOU want, rather than an expensive off the shelf item. My Shuker up to yet is turning out exactly as I asked Jon to make it. I always wanted a Sei and maybe will have one some day, they are stunning, but I'm not prepared to wait a year for a bass to be made, its a simple as that. Regards John (Full Back - Shuker F.C.)
10. Never had to use one at all. I have a "thing" about muso's who can't play a note if the music is taken away from them. I've known keyboard players who, even though they have played the same songs for years, can't play them if the music is not there. ( rant over )
11.
I'm mostly happy that British Luthiers are getting the respect they deserve. Stunning bass!
+1 for that, the work I have seen on the site from all the British luthiers is stunning, and this bass is no exception.
12. Here are some new pics I have just got from Jon, its nearly finished now and just needs the hardware putting on. The wet look laquer has brought the quilted maple out on the body and looks stunning, and the tape has been taken off the neck so the detail on the birdseye maple can be seen. I can't wait to get my hands on it.

14. Been on the phone to Jon this week having just got back off holiday, trouble is, he's on holiday next week, and he tells me he is waiting for the tuners to finish the build. Anybody got a spare set of nails, its getting frustrating now !!!
15. OK I'm back from holiday so its now back up for sale or trade. No Warwicks please. Thanks John
16. I've suspended the sale of this bass because I'm off on holiday tomorrow, I'll set it for sale again when I get back. Thanks John
17. I used to take my basses to Brazil and back on a regular basis, these included a Status 5 string and an Alembic Mark King signature, nobody ever bat an eyelid. But I would get yourself a second hand case to bring it back in, you stand a better chance of getting it in if you do.
18.
What price d'ya have in mind?
PM sent
19. To be honest I was only there about 15 minutes, the traffic was dire and I arrived half an hour late, and had to get back. Also he was very busy sanding a bass down, so I didn't want to hold him up. There was not a lot there, I suspect he only brings a few in at a time because of the floods. I will be up there in about 3 weeks to pick mine up, so I will be happy to take photos etc then.
20. Just got back from Jon's. The bass looks stunning in the flesh. Looking at the quilt maple top from the side, it looks 3D its soooo deep. Once the wet look gloss laquer goes on it will be brilliant. I'm picking it up at the start of August now because of flood delays, and me going on holiday. I didn't take any more photos as its about the same as it was in the last photos Jon sent me. This bass is going to be a peach. Its turning out exactly as I wanted
21. Do be doo doo !!! So what, its great to have it twice
22. Here are some new photos, just look at that top ! and its not finished yet !
