  1. thanks @3below, I have the black 2000 bridge but the base plate is a bit tatty – I've located a powder coating company near me so everything looking good – just got to get a SR4 neck plate made and I'll be heading for the final straight
  2. thanks for all the suggestions – the bridge is a Schaller and not the original MM one, and it's just the base plate part of it that could do with refinishing I have a post in the build diary section which I'll link this post to, once completed
  3. I need to get some Stingray parts painted black – or maybe I'll get them chromed – neck plate, knob plate(!), bridge
  4. Anyone recommend a UK supplier for this service?
  5. you beat me to it!
  6. get both – i had the same dilemma and have both
  7. Excellent!
  8. @Bigwan - I have a 2012 MBP running Mojave perfectly – did your installation fail?
  9. @MoonBassAlpha is right to recommend Tim Turan at Turan Audio in Oxford – he's just mastered my LP and it sounds great – I spent the day at the studio which wasn't really necessary as he know's what's what and will respond positively to any feedback or requests I think bandcamp do the conversion from WAV to MP3, FLAC etc – although I may be wrong – will find out shortly as this is where my stuff will be going
  10. If you don't me asking out of curiosity, who are you using for the manufacturing? I've designed many CDs over the years in my job as a graphic designer and have just started using this outfit with great results: https://www.bandcds.co.uk For once the text on the spine was perfectly centred – many big budget projects I've worked on haven't achieved that!
  11. Who's John Hall?
  12. Purely for your amusement… 😁 https://www.dhgate.com/product/flame-maple-top-natural-burlywood-basswood/412971610.html#cppd-10-5|null:103:r1437307129
  13. Thanks everyone – full report to follow
  14. Thanks @Grangur and @fleabag would the cover itself have something metallic to be grabbed by the magnets, perhaps a thin metallic film?
  15. Does anyone have any idea what kind of magnets and what size would be best for this kind of thing Currently on my build project there is a conventional screw-on cover but I would like something like this for quick access to the battery etc… http://alpher.co.uk/bass-gallery/
  16. when I said early summer, I didn't say which year, did I? 😊
  17. Well, the Hipshot Kickass bridge arrived, but unfortunately won't be kicking any donkey on this bass – it almost sticks off the end of the body with the E string meeting the saddle at approx 70mm from the lower edge of the pickup. See the new body next to Stingray 1 below. I will be using a Schaller 2000 which has a much smaller footprint – I have one on a jazz bass and it does everything it should. @Unknown_User not sure if it will be oil – more likely to be dye or stain – I'm still doing lots of youtube research etc @fleabag If I lose my nerve on the black dye thing, blonde would be the next option, tru-oil or similar Weirdly, the basschat grammar police have substituted (a-s-s) for donkey above – it can't be edited!
  18. Day 2 etc? Sounds like a fun thing to do – ah, then it loaded, ta
  19. @Cuzzie it's a deal!
  20. I had a spare neck so rather than sell it I had a new body made – I have all the parts except a bridge which will probably be a Hipshot Kickass Spec as follows: Swamp Ash body will be oiled black – not sure how best to do this yet, will consult here and test on some scrap wood Pickups: Delano MC 4 HE/M2 and Delano JC 4 HE/M2 Preamp: ACG 01 (John East) Scratchplate: White Pearloid, with matching cavity control cover Watch this space (but don't hold your breath!) – hopefully all done by early Summer
  21. What's the best approach to accurately drilling and attaching a bridge into a new body – any advice appreciated
  22. thanks @toneknob i always was about 7 years behind the times 🐌
  23. I was lucky enough to see Ian Dury and The Blockheads in 1978 at the New Theatre in Oxford – as was normal for the times, they came onstage wearing brown paper bags on their heads – saw Wilko supporting the Stranglers around 2007 with Norman and Dylan – can't help thinking that the period since the 60s/70s has probably been the best – is the future going to be any good? discuss!
  24. me neither!
  25. I hear on the grapevine that Colin Greenwood from Radiohead bought Norman Watt-Roy's jazz bass from Andy Baxter – nice that it's gone to someone cool!
