  1. The Gigrig modular system is a bit pricier than some all in one solutions but its very adaptable. You can also go full OCD with cable routes and lengths.
  2. Jam Pedals have a couple of pedals with low and high gain switches. 2 of these and you'd have 4 gain stages! LucyDreamer: low gain overdrive Rattler: high gain distortion Red Muck: muff-style fuzz/distortion JHS also have a couple of pedals that combine pairs of their overdrives. You can switch the order as well for more tones. Double Barrel: a transparent overdrive into a mid-bumped overdrive (transparent side also has a high/low gain switch you can operate with a footswitch) Sweet Tea: a mid-bumped drive into a Marshall-style overdrive
  3. Anyone watching for the release of Serek's The Grand? I'm counting down to the moment I can look at them and realise I can't afford one 😢
  4. Yes it was! its not even themes expensive Fender I've ever seen! hope you enjoy yours!
  5. I took a trip to The Bass Gallery yesterday and played a Fodera, a 6 string Monarch I think. It was nice, sounded pretty good, found that sound you hear from the classic Fodera players like Matt Garrison, Janek Gwizdala etc., though I definitely couldn't play the same lines! But honestly I wasn't that taken with it. I much preferred the Wilcock and Rob Allen basses I tried. Doesn't matter how much you spend on your instrument, what you like matters more.
  6. 1. Jaco Pastorius played a stock Fender. 2. It depends what you care about. I'm a teacher, so I earn a decent salary, and some of my colleagues feel its worthwhile spending their's on leasing a brand new BMW. I think that's the dumbest waste of money ever, but its not my money so who cares what I think. I'm spending £3kish on a Serek because I think they look cool, they come well reviewed and I can afford it. The phrase "f**k it, do what you want" comes to mind.
  7. I'm working on Donna Lee (just the head at the moment) and I can't seem to get the feel right. Whether I play it straight or swung it doesn't feel quite right when I play along with the Charlie Parker recording. Anyone know more about Bebop than me?
  8. I bought this pedal for £25 from a friend who doesn't play much bass anymore, and honestly wasn't expecting much (I have some prejudices against the mass produced pedals). BUT I plugged it in this evening and holy s**t, this overdrive sounds so good! Its got basic bass/treble EQ, mix, level and gain. With everything at 12 it's a bit aggressive but a very useable starting point. I found trimming the top end and putting the mix at 3 o'clock (towards dry) gave me a nice bit of grind while still feeling the sound of my bass. I'd honestly put this up there with the Xotic BB Preamp and JHS Morning Glory as pretty transparent overdrive. I regret anything bad I ever thought or said about Boss.
  9. Also, look at this rare beast! https://reverb.com/uk/item/49312045-fender-mustang-bass-1978-antiqua Already looking at if I can afford to get this and still pay for my Serek 😅
  10. Doe snayone know what model that is? it doesn't look vintage and I'm not aware of recent (i.e. last 20 years) models with a matching headstock.
  11. The Doom 2 is gone already and I only saw them a couple of hours ago. I think what annoys me is that Spencer could have charged more on his own site, and that would've been a better place for the money to go IMO.
  12. Just seen a Proton and a Doom 2 up on Reverb for about £500. What is uncomfortable is that the seller says the bought them directly from 3Leaf in the last few weeks where Spencer has been selling off the B-stock. I don't know about you guys but that doesn't sit right with me, to buy at a comparative discount and sell on at a huge profit (for context, I believe Spencer sold them for approx. £150).
  13. I'm looking out for a 3Leaf Doom 2. Will probably be a few months before Spencer does another run
  14. I personally prefer my filter after overdrive/distortion, it gives the filter more upper frequencies to work with. As Josh Scott of JHS says, just try stuff
  15. I play in a few different wedding bands so I use octaves, filters and chorus to recreate synth bass sounds (I don't play with nay of them consistently enough to justify shelling out for an actual synth). I also make some pretty wild sounds in my original band, we're a trio so there's lots of space to take up. Having said that, my phaser and chorus probably get the least use of all my pedals, hence why I only have one of each.
  16. Same... but as soon as some Doom 2s appear I'll be all over them.
  17. When I put the deposit down at the end of October Jake said it would be a year, but they've had supply chain issues and he posted on the socials to add an extra 6-8 weeks. Everything I've read about them says it'll be worth it.
  18. This makes me more excited for mine, but also more frustrated because I probably won't get it til January 2023 😭
  19. For my mini board (Mono Lite, so basically a Pedlatrain Nano) I've mounted a Gigrig isolator underneath and I plug that into a standard 9v True Tone power supply. I'm sure that would void any warranty but I've been doing it for about 6 months and it works great.
