My son started at 7 on an Alesis electronic kit. He's now 11, studying for Grade 6, and has just asked if he can have a second bass drum added to his acoustic kit "you know Dad, like Cozy Powell"!
Next it will be. Can I have 4 like Alex van halen !!!!!
Given your location Bass Gear in Twyford is an absolute must. Also, Wunjo's have taken over the dreadful Bass Cellar in Denmak St. Realy nice people, loads of fabulous basses but not great on backline which they admitted they would always struggle to stock in any depth given the size of teh place.
Yep there where I tried out the mark bass rig Lm3 head and traveller 115 and 210 cabs, seriously nice rig and smaller and lighter in total size to what I am using now But they didn't have a lot in their to compare against, would of been nice to stack it up against TC! Hartke and gk offerings

Right guys Where is the best bass shop, real shop with kit in stock not an online retailer I want to go and spend some hours experimenting with new rigs so I want a shop that has real stock from lots of manufacturers for me to try out Played a mark bass rig today at a shop in London, but the only other thing they had was some fender stuff I would like to try some mark bass, tc electronic, hartke and gk kit and see which I prefer I am in Swindon so the closer the better, but I am not worried about travelling Thanks

I use an app called songster on my iPad It's a mere £6.99 but has over 500,000 guitar and bass tabs, the iPad also plays the track for you so you can learn by ear, but glance at the tab if you can't work out the notes I think you can slow it down as well if needed

Back stage after sound check Check out our album on iTunes, search for Ian Barrett

Just opened the show at the Swindon county ground, rocked the crowd up good Lucky we finished before the rain came, this was my first gig back after 3 years off Not a bad start
-
I don't mind used gear if its in fairly good nick Not overly worried about the sub harmonic just wondered about it The first proper head I ever had was a peavey mk viii, which I swapped for the firebass, but in retrospect that was a bad move as I much preferred the mk viii In my opinion the tone was better and it had a built in compressor and chorus which was nice on slower numbers

Just to throw into the mix, I play a fender precision lyte active bass
Ignore the size of the drivers in a cab, because they are largely irrelevant and just listen to the cab as a whole.
Where is a good shop to go to, to try out loads of kit I am Swindon, the biggest I know of is PMT in Bristol, but I am happy to travel
Ouch! There is not a lot of space under Neath. Might we be able to convince you to fit them under Holyhead instead? Or at least under Bangor? What others say: ignore the size of one speaker. Rather concentrate on total area. The days have passed that the godawful speakers of yesteryear could be "judged" by size. Before we narrow it down, do you have a budget? 1500 quid will near buy you heaven on earth, but maybe you won't go there. best, bert
Hah Neath bl@@dy iPad predictive text Budget is undecided as yet, depends on the bookings and that. We might have to stick to just earth without the heaven at the moment But budgets always get extended for the right kit anyway, but for devils advocate lets say we have a budget of £600 to start But this doesn't have to buy both cabs. The second can follow at a later date But would love to see your idea for £1500 Just been told that first gig is Saturday at the Swindon town county ground music festival. Should be alright there as the sound company is the same one that does the T4 on the beach

Well after many years out of the gigging world, it looks like I will be making a return Be doing some recording over the last couple of years, but now going back out on the road Looking for a new rig, the old rig was a peavey fire bass with a 15 black widow and 2x 10s I want something smaller and lighter for the average pub gig but able to deal with an enthusiastic drummer The world has changed since I last bought anything with all these class d amps about So I am looking for good suggestion for a rig, we are a rock band fairly bonjovi ish, check out iTunes and search for Ian Barrett for a listen to the album we released a couple of years back this will give you an idea of our sound I want a nice warm solid tone, not overly interested in effects, but would like a compressor and maybe chorus, also see that a few amps have a sub harmonic. Does this add much Do you guys that have this, use it much All suggestions great fully received, don't mind a combo providing additional cab can be fitted under Neath But ideally would be looking for a rack mount head, and cabs Open to suggestions. Like the boom of a 15 coupled with 10s have also played just a 4x10 cab as well. Not a fan of a single 15. But never used 12's Thanks
Not really. With them being an Active Bass in their original configuration, they're a bit more 'modern' sounding. I replaced the pick-ups on mine, as most people seem to do, and with a bit of 'tweaking' can get very close to the Precision Sound. It also has a Jazz pick-up, but it doesn't do the Jazz Sound very well at all. If you can get a sound you're happy with (I did) they're a nice, comfortable Bass to play.
i cant comment as i havent spent long playing a standard precison, yes they are active, but i have always been happy with the sound i bought it years ago and has stayed with me since mainly as it light and comfortable to play, i used to play guitar so the body shape didnt take long to get used to, i also like the small narrow neck as i tend to play alot of runs across the 4 strings and have been known to through a few solos in from time to time what pickups did you swap your for ???
I have the self same trouble. There are light basses out there but to save yourself grief I'd define what you mean by light! IMHO it needs to be lighter than 9lb to qualify as light, whereas I've bought basses off Basschat whereby owners have made claims of 'featherweight' and 'the lightest bass I've ever owned'... one can only assume that the latter comment was from someone economical with the truth, who has only ever owned one bass as the bass in question was closer to 11lb! The Fender Precision Lyte basses are pretty light and many of the new CV Jazz and Precision basses are around about 9lb (the two I've owned were just over). Though many claim that the Lakland Skylines 'can' be light I've yet to find one that is genuinely under 9lb (x2 DJ's were both way over 9lb and the JO was the 11lb offender). As has been mentioned there is the 'cricket bat' option and SOME hollowbodies (though beware some of them have solid cores and the extra large body size on some, really bumps the weight), such as the violin basses. If your budget stretches you can find some very lightweight Warwick Streamer basses but they need to be the early to mid 80's ones; I have two, one of them is 7lb 7oz the other about 8lb. I also have a Zon Sonus which is 8.5lb. The obvious which I'm sure you already do is to wear a nice wide strap. Best of luck from a fellow sufferer.
agree, i have a Fender Precision Lyte, really light, not much heavier than a strat, i can easily do a 2hr plus gig with and not notice

hi guys been out of the scene for about 7 years, but recently reformed band. after we split 7 years ago i sold my rig off which was a Peavey firebass, 4x10 and 1x15 while we have been practising i have used my old mans firebass and 1x15 but i really want a rig of my own, but not sure where to head we are a rock band playing originals and covers, there is a definate bon jovi GnR's sound to our band, years ago it was Peavey on a budget or ampeg if had more money, but now adays thre seems to be alot more on offer need some opinions from people in similar bands for what they use for there sound, i like the deepness of a 15 but also like the sound of 10's, ideally i suppose a 15 and 2x10 might be the way to go, but i have never played through 12's, also i would dearly love to lose some of the weight of the Peavey gear i have a bass pod pro so do i just need a power amp or is it still best to get a bass amp i have often lusted after some EBS kit but they may be because of the jovi influence and hughie mac playing EBS about 10 years ago i had a peavey mk viii head and that had everything i wanted, good sound, compression and fottswitchable chorus, but weighed a ton right starting to waffle now so i'll await some opinions from those in the know cheers steve

hello there just a quick hello and a bit of history on me been playing bass in Semi pro bands from 95-03 , but have had a break for the last 7 (couple of studio sessions maybe) any hows the band has reformed now and were off, started as a bit of a piss take, some one in a pub saying "i bet you lot cant remember any of your songs", but now 3 months down the line we have a 2 1/2 hour set and 2 comeback gigs scheduled for november sold my rig in 03 but kept the basses though, couldn't part with em so i have a Fender Precision Lyte Active, and a home built active based on a Tanglewood pattern, both 4 stringers also use a Bass pod Pro and 2x Audio Technica Wireless Packs looking to get a new rig soon but at the mo making do with my old mans Firebass 700 and 1x15 black widow (are they really that heavy !!!lol) looking for suggestions on rig ideally like 1x15, 2x10 and then rack mount head, budget wise undecided at moment as dont know how we will survive the 2 comeback gigs nd how much workload the band will want, trouble is we got married and had kids in the break, so touring in a transit is out !! lol any way catch you later, and any bands around the Swindon area looking for a support act shoot us a PM we are a Rock band playing Originals and covers (about 60-65% originals at the moment) influences are of the Bonjovi, GnR, ACDC, Maiden, Springsteen feel cheers
