1. Beginning to suspect it's actually an early Korean NS-94 which may have initially been badged as NS-4. No evidence beyond the headstock shape for this though.
2.
Yep it looks like an SSD NS-94 (had a Korean made one)
Except it has NS-4 on the truss rod cover not NS-94
3. Just retrieved this from a loan which lasted about 20 years. Can anyone confirm what it is? I believe its one of the very first SSD Czech made instruments. SSD and NS-4 on the headstock. SSD (humbucker?) pickups and 9V electronics. 3 piece thru neck and looks like solid maple wings. Lovely thing. Year, origin and value?
4. No brainer. Use the weight you saved on the cab an invest it on the amp. My rig:
5. Virtually unplayed. Some barely detectable marks to headstock and body edges (tried to photograph). Comes with cheapo Thomann gigbag. One of first 1000 with neckplate signed by Marcus Miller himself. Pickup from Hampton Hill or will deliver within half hour drive of Hampton Hill or Farnborough (weekdays)
6. As new. Never gigged. Silver cloth with Roqsolid cover. Collect only from SW London or can deliver within half hour of Hampton Hill or Farnborough (weekdays). Would cost new with cover £950 + shipping.
7.
Definite yes to Jerome Rimson, should have put him on my list. Boy can that man groove.
Came across him first at a Roger Chapman gig in 1976. Playing an Alembic modified Ricky of all things. Fantastic sound and groove.
8.
Is this still available?
Yes

11. Twickenham/Richmond area is a sort of halfway house between urban London and home counties twattery. Culturally it's middlebrow. Nothing leading edge going on but not tribute band hell like, say, Surrey. I've lived there, under protest, for 35 years. If you have to live in SE England, it's the least worst option. Property is stupidly expensive now and the quality of people has declined in the last 10 years with the very diverse population being inundated with an influx of wealthy identical nuclear Stepford families and Russian crimelords. It does have a noble musical history though, being the epicentre of the British blues boom in the mid sixties. The iconic gigs were the Eel Pie club, the Crawdaddy club and the Winning Post. It's where the Stones, The Who, Fleetwood Mac (the good one rather than the sh*te California one) made their names. That legacy still exists, the SW London blues scene is quite vibrant. Robin Bibi, Papa George, Micky Moody, Steve Simpson etc. Jagger and Townsend still live on Richmond Hill.
12. About to emabark on something similar but with a view to a lot more4 insulation for cool in summer and warm in the summer. Not too concerned about soundproofing since it's 150' away from the nearest neighbour and it won't have a kit in it. Looking at a SIPS kit from ebay with cedar cladding and triple glazed doors. Total project cost for an 8x10 properly insulated, to housing standard, space should be around 2 grand.
13.
Ah.....but is it a rimshot or a miss?
Nope this is deliberately hitting rim and skin simultaneously as hard as possible just to reinforce the neanderthal stereotype.
14. I've been pretty lucky with drummers over the last 45 years of playing. Didn't really encounter bad timing until about 10 years ago and it was really weird. Halfway through the first tune I just thought "I've forgotten how to play bass". A few tunes in and the penny dropped. Far too stressful to play with that sort of drummer. Never again
15. What is it with drummers and rimshots? The majority of them these days, the first thing they do after they've set up is hit a really loud rimshot. Thanks for that, I really needed that pain in my life. And more and more I'm finding them consistently playing the bloody things throughout the gig. They've spent top dollar on a great sounding snare and all they want to do is make it sound like a deafeningly loud biscuit tin. Fortunately I'm getting older and less tolerant so that's always the last gig I do with them. And for try outs I'm adopting a zero tolerance approach too. If they're trying out, one rimshot and they pack their bags. If I'm trying out, one rimshot and I walk. It's the only way to be certain. This pestilence must be stamped out entirely.
16. Definitely an age thing for me. Quite apart from having more aches and pains you tend to be wiser and realise the futility of schlepping all that gear around and are more aware of the consequences of one misjudged lift for the rest of your life. There is also the comfort thing. When I was younger I was quite happy to drive around in a Volvo Estate chosen for it's lugging capacity. Now I feel I deserve a decent rear wheel drive saloon with comfort, toys, walnut and, I'm afraid, a boot where all that crap can rattle around independently of my serene environment, the only sounds being that of the Home Service or 6Music. And then you get to the gig, set up in a few minutes with one trip to the car and get to the bar finally ahead of that lazy bastard guitarist who is usually holding court there while watching you sweat. And you're aware of time ticking away and the grim reaper sharpening his scythe. Only worth gigging if it doesn't cost effort and time which you could otherwise use being nice to yourself. So, in the last year, the 1970s SVT stack with fridge has gone, replaced with Barefaced and G-K gear, the Hammond C3 with two Leslies has also gone, replaced by a Nord Electro and a lightweight PA. All I'm left with is the '64 Blackface Twin. No idea how to lightweight that though. Not wimpy enough to obsess about guitar weight though. It's a Stingray FFS. It weighs what a Stingray weighs.
17.
Fired / shoved from a sh*t hot, highly rated blues band after 10 years for refusing to play SRV clone stuff like every other blues band in the world (plus there was a load of my work commitments, to be fair.) The galling thing was it was a new drummer that kicked off the SRV idea, was booking us £100 pub gigs and he couldn't even play a fricken shuffle properly! I'm pleased to say that the band imploded 3 months after I went. The same drummer is also selling our blues bands CDs at his current gigs inferring he's playing on them - he did not play on them at all!!!!! I'm getting wound up now so I'll stop! 18.
Thats good to hear. You still get the GK growl and punch? I was concerned about the more vintage style colouring of these cabs making it less suitable for modern rock tones.
The growl and punch are very much there. No flabbiness with this cab. Don't know about modern rock tones, we play mainly pub rock/new wave type material. So think Norman Watt-Roy (to whom I've been frequently compared as in "He's nowhere near as good as Norman Watt-Roy, is he?") or the Rumour etc. All needing plenty of punch. It's not that coloured, I tried using it as a keyboard cab with a Nord Electro and it sounded fine for organ and piano. Happy to gig with it in that context. Apologies to Discreet for bringing this up, and any resulting existential angst, but we A/B'd the One 10 with a G-K MB 200 and an MB Fusion 500 the other night. The 200 was good but IMO (and that of all assembled, well not quite, we didn't ask the drummer, obviously) the Fusion 500 was in a different class. Of course, the 200 is far cuter.
