  1. I have had a few MM's and EB's over he years, nice basses but ultimately not for me. Never tied the sub or Sterling but I do have a Japanese Ibanez ATK 300 that gets me pretty close to the Stingray sound and feel whenI'm in the mood. They are very well made  and get you 90% there in the sound imho.

    Good luck, enjoy the search.

Oh that reminds me, we were going to cover that one - it has a bad Sax solo in it, and we have a sax player who could do it perfectly!

    Roxanne!

    (actually, anything by Lord Sting)

    And this!

Hadn't heard or seen that before! Well worth the watch.

At the moment they both have TI flats on them.

Im thinking of putting different stings on one of them for a bit of variety.

    Definitely flats, but which?

My current gig is a big band with about 20 people. Brass, reeds, piano, drums etc.

I have 2 P's but one round one flats, covers nearly everything for me..except the Wal gets used 90% of the time :)

Just wondering if its anything like a HPF, and if so what its set at?

@Lozz196 I believe you have used one 🙂

I think it's mainly for acoustic guitar, kind of like a hum kill..  not anything like any HPF that I have tried. I never engage the rumble filter when I use an electric bass. (thins things out a little too much  if I remember correctly)=

    Lozz maybe has more details.

No, not considered half rounds as of yet but maybe something to consider, only thing im afraid of is that they will sound like dead rounds once broken in, I tried a set of the Fender pure nickel strings once and they sounded ok initially if a little bright then pretty much as soon as they broke in they just sounded like dead rounds, I took them off as soon as they got to that point

For me, I found half-rounds to be not so good at either. I stuck them on a fretless in the end and had a bit of joy with them. Not for me but worth experimenting with.

    Hey fellow bassists,

I have just ordered an amazing Jaydee bass from John Diggins.

So i'd love to hear from any Jaydee owners there thoughts, opinions and pics (please!).  Do you gig regularly with your Jaydee? What styles do you use it for? Can you resist slapping it as soon as you pick it up..? lol

    thanks in advance,

    joe

Congrats. I also hope to own one someday. Looking forward to the replies.

  7. I've only owned two a 2001 and an 86, the Pre EB 86 was by far the best, nicer sounding preamp (for me) and the neck was well played in and very fast and smooth.  Shame I just don't really get on with Stingrays enough to keep hold of them for some odd reason!

  8. There must be something you have always really fancied, try that.

I have been through a few good basses but getting a custom build done was the pinnacle for me, maybe it's the waiting for the build that makes it that much more special. I don't think I would ever want to move it on.

Well, cut my tongue out ...but i too had a wal bass, a series two 5 string no less....was as heavy as a chippendale chair and although it had a lot of

sounds, only a few were usable, i could never really get on with the filter preamp ..... anyway, bought it new for £1400 and sold it for £800

    beat me now !!!

It's funny so many Wal's seem to of gone unloved. I know I had a hard time trying to find a fretted MK1 that someone was willing to sell.. waited over 6 months for one to come up on here. (maybe it was bad timing)

For me the awkward basses have been..stingrays (the preamp, never could settle on a sound I liked) great playability tho. Ricks, just find they dull and slow up my playing :) Jazz basses , necks a bit too narrow (on the ones I owned and tried) Most semi-acoustic basses because of the strap pin positions :) There I said it...

How does the Bassman OD compare to the Rumble?

Hi. I haven't had a chance to use it with the band yet! But I think it will work very nicely, you can blend in the clean and tube driven channel so you can lose no lowend.

I never used the OD on the rumble, I had a Darkglass vintage tube pedal that I used to dirty it up when needed.

I'm really liking the Vintage channel on the bassman atm, it very very nice :) pleased wit it so far.

Oooh, wouldn't want to be your back...I had the 100w version of this way back when...heavy mudda...admire your commitment.

It's the Hybrid version not the all tube :) Less than 8kg's. I'd go for the all tube I think if I didn't have to move it too much.
