1. Just to show the difference between raw and finished (mostly cause I haven't side by sided yet):
2. Ha, I was looking at the listing thinking it looks to have plenty of grain going on. Gonna fret one?
3. Scratchplate caving in is the thing otehr than tail lift, it isn't laminated and is over massive holes with protruding bits.
4. Kind of meant "Badly finished and an unfinished scratchplate." = authentic. Not much point in downgrading to Rick hardware either. Buy upgrade stuff, from Hipshot (and me).
5. That is a pretty damn nice find. Did the tech snaffle all the nice old vales out of it?
6. Sounds authentic.
7. The valve pre in the bass terror basically has the wrong valves, so it gets really dirty really easily unless you change them, it isn't pushing the power section to near its limit before the pre is clipping, even with master up and gain down. If you are pushing 500w to near its limits, you'll need serious cabs to be within their own limits.
8.
Thread revival! I'm also trying to decide if 1000W is worth the extra cash. From what I've read, all 500W users are happy with the power. I like the ability to dial in a bit of grit, but also like to play loud and clean. I expect the 1000 would give me a little more clean headroom? Trying one out tomorrow, but would appreciate any feedback members can offer. Ta
The total lack of clean headroom is all in the preamp stage, the power section doesn't figure into it at all.
9. Only forgetting I got was side dots anyway. I did discuss black hardware, but it was extra and I knew I'd end up changing my mind, so I just sent him hardware.
10. Haven't finished the one I have yet, still waiting on black hardware arriving cause the silver looks wrong now its done.
11. Bah, was hoping to see how the bloodwood comes up with a finish. Anyone wanna buy that one and pay me to finish it? Random contrasting bits on fingerboard look cool.
12. No-one round here will have much clue what the market is like there, but quite likely worth a premium for rarity there, but finding someone willing to pay might also be a rarity.
13. Then you can sell the old plate to the buyer of this, so they can swap out the J retro, and sell the separate.
14. Definitely onto a winner when they stand by the service warranty on a 1979 amp.
15. There is a whole bunch of cool stuff that can be done with the ton of pre to power options that people miss out on with these, some seriously advanced stuff that they miss out on if they 'upgrade' to another amp.
16. Should have tried it with a mid and crossover, sorted it right out.
17.
Although last week on Later he was using GK.
No 360s over here to borrow.
18. 18" in a short horn with a horn mid driver. So more in common with BFM designs than a GK 4x10.
19. That sounds pretty bodgy when you can use an electronic tuner to set intonation correct on the 12th fret and be close enough for bass purposes, and if you are tone deaf enough to not be able to do that with the harmonic and the 12th fret, then the difference probably won't matter. Here's an article: http://www.edgeguitarservices.co.uk/gal_tuning.htm And an essay by my teching tutor: http://www.seymourduncan.com/forum/showthread.php?t=65926
20. Still somewhat miss my one of these, the fact that it has been holding its own vs a Matamp is pretty telling.
21.
Unbranded Jazz copy with DiMarzio/SD retrofits http://www.ebay.co.u...=item2569dd1bf4
I've played this bass. Its OK.
22.
Jeff(?) was ranting about a couple of brands yesterday, I don't know much about it myself
I don't think he gets on with Dave Green who left to join Ashdown/Hayden.
23.
all the Ashdown etc. amps in the same factory in China.
Funny, my Ashdowns were made by Matamp.
24. Those are actually instrument rehumidifiers, to correct warps and fret sprout from being left against warm radiators.
