  1. That's a lovely job! Nice one! Jez
  2. Started making the templates for this. I've made the main body and neck templates for. I need to make one template for the routing of the neck pocket, bridge pockets and control cavity and another template for the control cavity cover. Once that is done, I can choose the wood I'm going to use and start building!!
  3. I agree - looks nice and I prefer it to the white body. Cheers
  4. Not far off now. Please add your names to the list if you’re coming so we can get an idea of the numbers attending and the variety of gear!
  5. Found this on the web. Presume you are planning a bolt on neck so this will need adapting...
  6. Nice to chat to you at the SW Bassbash! Not my style of bass but I'll have a look at a few more pictures on line and see if I can suggest something useful! Looking forward to seeing how this goes. Cheers Jez
  7. Cheers Andy. The two greyish looking strips are actually maple I believe it. It looks more like some kind of burr I think; they are actually a couple of 1" offcut strips from a top. It's only clamped at the moment, just trying a couple of ideas so may well change....got a variety of offcut strips that might be good for this nice, short neck!
  8. Still haven't had chance to sort the templates for this yet but I bought some sapele today!! I have the truss rod, fretboard and the neck wood. The neck is probably going to be a 7 piece laminate just to look pretty!! Unfortunately work and house DIY are slowing this down.......
  9. Go on then... 1. Si600 - Nothing. You've already seen all my stuff and if the weather is nice I want to get the bike out 2. Norris - Ampeg BA-108 and Yamaha TRBX305 3. SpondonBassed - Pitbull IB5 (bass built from kit) if I can blag a lift and return for Enderby 4. Andyjr1515 - Kert's Camphor Singlecut; Pete's EB-3 tribute; Pete's Piccolo Bass 5. Jabba_the_gut - Some self build basses, Blackline 250 head and TC RS112 cabs Please can you add yourselves to this list if you are coming. Cheers
  10. Marvellous! Looking forward to it already! Cheers
  11. The neck has got two carbon rods installed as well as the truss rod (there’s a picture of them in an earlier post). Cheers
  12. Hello and welcome! As Geek99 said, there’s a bass bash on Enderby (have a look in the Events section for details) which is a good opportunity to try out lots of different bass gear and meet other bassists. You’ll find people of all abilities and playing styles and he atmosphere is very relaxed. cheers
  13. Cheers for the all the comments! I was thinking it might be interesting to post a sound clip and I hoping to ask someone at the SW Bass Bash if I could record them playing (I'm not very good on a fretless) but I completely forgot. Doh!
  14. Just wanted to say thanks to Mike and the Scrumpy crew for another great bash - really appreciated the organisation of this and the lovely food. I'm looking forward to next year already!! It was great to meet up with people I met last year and to put some faces to names of others I have seen on the forum. Day went far too quickly for me and I didn't get to try half the things I would have liked to! The 1x12 shoot out was very interesting but I missed the 1x12" build as I was too busy chatting. As usual, there was lots of different and interesting kit. It was great to chat to Michael Gillett again - really interesting chap and lovely basses. And some cracking Markbass gear too - Marcus Miller heads and 1x12 cabinet took my fancy. I carried someone's (Norm's?) 2x15 Barefaced cab in - one handed carry - ridiculously light. I have to say thanks for all the positive comments I got on the basses I took, especially on the fretless one; I'm glad folk liked them. To hear what the fretless one actually sounds like in the hands of people than can actually play fretless was really rewarding for me. I need to practice (a lot!!!). For anyone that has thought about going but hasn't, you really should no matter what your ability or kit. This is such a friendly event in a lovely location. Thanks again to everyone for a really enjoyable day. Jez And I won a cracking strap in the raffle - really chuffed with that!
  15. Unfortunately not! I had two planks, one flat sawn (which I cut into two 8mm thick pieces for bass tops) and one quarter sawn piece which I haven't used yet. Crikey! Did you buy the house off Prince?..... I've got a purpleheart fretboard I might use on this (depending on which body wood I use). Haven't tried it before but could be interesting. I bumped into a tree surgeon neighbour of mine today who had some fresh cut planks of sequoia (redwood) on his truck. Looked very nice - might have to get some off him and put it to one side to dry.
  16. Quite agree. Most bodies I make are in the range 35-40mm. I've got a spare Warwick preamp from a Thumb bass and I need to make a deeper body when I use that as the push/pull switch on the balance/blend knob makes it quite long.
  17. Cheers Si and Jimothey. The wenge is actually a reclaimed floorboard - I can't imagine what the house was like that it came from!!
  18. That's what I love with Basschat - when you have a problem, people will help you find a practical solution!!
  19. It's going to be a little while before I get to build this but I couldn't help myself looking at ideas of how it could look. So I cut an outline and put it over various bits of wood I have: Ash Wenge Walnut Maple Spalted beech Map I actually quite like the map one!!
  20. Thanks Ped. I'll have a good dig around the Wingbass website for ideas!!
  21. That's a shame - I'm in Gloucestershire. If you haven't completed it by the beginning of May, I could take the fret press to the Midlands bass.
