Thanks for that FEND3R. I also found the Thunder Gut strings felt rather "sticky" with loads of drag. I couldn't get my left hand to move freely. Nice to know there are several alternatives out there....
Yes, Marc, thanks for mentioning, that is something I forgot - the Reds are not sticky (or at least very little), which in my book is a huge improvement
Not seen one of these before Didn't even know they existed... Re the strings, I had the more common type of Ashbory. I wasn't a fan of the Aguilar Thunder Gut strings it came fitted with (each to their own, I know) But those Aguilar strings on your bass look quite different - they're far less chunky. Do you know how they compare with the Thunder Gut strings? I'm sure this won't be around long GLWTS anyway
Indeed, the Thunder Reds fell more tense, thin and responsive than the Thunder guts and in my oppinion with a more defined tone, the T. Guts are somehow "wobbly".

As far as I know it is all original, I only had my bass tech put some foil around the bridge in order to reduce some of piezo associated noise. Cool and rare piece of Ashbory history, comes with the original gig bag and 3 of the original blue silicone rubber strings, currently it is strung with Aguila Thunder Reds. Please, feel free to ask any additional questions or demand additional photos/videos. The bass is SOLD. G&L L-1000 from 1983 (I belive judging by the serial number and headstock design), made in USA. Old headstock, mahogany body and one piece maple neck. The bass plays and sounds sweet with low action and huge output, it has the original parts but has been modified – the previous owner added a bridge J pickup and has stripped the body. My local guitar tech removed the added pickup, filled the hole, repainted it in the original ivory color, polished the frets and gave it a super nice set up. The neck laquer has crazings and bumps. Apart from the above it is a joy to play, the truss rod, electronics, bridge all work perfectly, the action is super nice and it can get quite low, plenty of life left in the frets. Weight is about 4,5kg on my home scale, so not that bad for a vintage G&L. I will ship from Bulgaria so there will be no import taxes for EU buyers. No case but will be securely packed. Feel free to ask me any additional questions or demand additional photos/videos. Delivery usually takes around 7 working days to most of EU. My feedback can be found HERE As to trades I am generally interested in vintage precisions, but if you have something else thats interesting - try me. "Very rare [bass] - maybe only one in UK..."
FEND3R replied to solo4652's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
It is not it is made in Bulgaria, weak and blurry pickup, notorious for neck twists and snapping truss rod and the neck is like a baseball bat - think bigger than a 51 Fender. All in all usually sells for 40£ around here. -

Traded, no longer available. 1965 Höfner 500/1 Beatle bass, beautiful bass with lots of mojo. Usual problems for the model have been sorted - neck has been reset and pickups rewound professionaly by a luthier, everything work as it should - electronics, truss rod, tuners, etc. Additional photos: https://goo.gl/photos/vq1f7yRpqJyzAKrA9 The bass is a joy to play with low action and delivers the famous "tic-tac" sound. A true players instrument that you won't fear to take to a gig. I have two almost identical beatle basses so am willing to trade this one for a vintage or custom shop Fender, preferably up to early 70s precisions, Fullerton reissue precisions, Custom shop precisions, even a vintage jazz bass, pre-EB MucisMan, Bravewood, Dingwall, Sadowsky, Wal, F bass, Mike Lull can be taken into consideration, part trades or straight trades can be negotiated. Feel free to ask me any additional questions or demand additional photos/videos. Delivery usually takes around 7 working days to the UK and most of EU. Sold!!! Pretty nice condition for its age, maple neck, ash body, super nice flame going on at the neck. Relatively light for a 70’s P (4kg / 8,82lbs on my home scale), 42,5mm at the nut, meaty and super comfortable neck profile, truss rod works properly, action is set quite low and nice. It is a tone monster – with round wounds it growls amazingly, with flats it has a super deep thump and fits super nice in a band setting. The story – I bought it from the original owner and its all original with the exception of an “on/off switch” that has been added in the 80’s – it can be seen near the jack. What’s interesting and rather unique is that the truss rod plug is not the usual walnut but some other lighter wood. All the dings, scuffs and swirls are reflected in the detailed pics, in flesh it actually looks better but I have tried to capture all the little imperfections. Detailed photos of the bass can be found here: https://picasaweb.go...feat=directlink Given the above my price is SOLD plus actual shipping. I know that this is more at the high end of the market, but the bass is just really that good and I am having second thoughts about selling it, so either it sells at this price or I keep it. The original case is long gone, so I will buy a new one for the shipping – your choice of lightweight semi-hard case or black tolex generic one. It will be shipped in the case and well packed in cardboard. I will ship from Bulgaria so there will be no import taxes for EU buyers. Money transfers through PayPal or bank. Feel free to ask me any additional questions or demand additional photos/videos. Delivery usually takes around 7 working days to the UK and most of EU. My feedback can be found here: http://basschat.co.u..._1#entry2610067 Trade wise I will be interested in earlier alder body precisions, custom shop precisions or Fullerton reissue precisions, Ampeg B15 or B15N with cash adjustments. Regards
