1. Well I dont own an epoxy coated pre amp version but I do have one with tantalum caps and one with electrolytic caps which is the same preamp that carried on right through the 2 band Ernie ball basses, even now it's the same circuit but on a green pcb. The trouble is I'd say there are two factors at play on my 79 that make more difference, the heavier body 79 about 1kg more as my 82 is really light and the 79 is also string through. The 79 is really big sounding with the pickups set about the same height and both on ebmm 40-100 . Overall they all appear to have something extra over an ebmm 2 band especially in the thump region
2. Genz neox 2x12T and if your feeling really flush I think they now do one in their uber range too I'm not sure about the mid driver idea, good 12's and an adjustable tweeter cover a lot of ground imo and probably why's many people are going for 12's
3. Everytime I have had new gear it's been gigged the same night, needs must as the genz cab I bought was to replace the faulty ashdown rig I had, a wedding gig that evening meant it went straight into service. It's never been pushed beyond it's limits anyway.
4. Bass direct My ray5 was from pmt Birmingham and they were ok although the service at guitar guitar was better, just a shame they had no ray 5s in stock.
5. Making some really nice basses right now imo , cool
6. Still want a Classic5 stingrays, probably tobacco burst
7. Is the drummer at the wrong gig?
8. I dont really like 10s, I have tried almost every combination of various brands from 1x10 to 8x10 and never really felt any bass? It's fine that the experts tell us that under scientific tests they are the same blah blah but if I don't like it I don't like it end of
9. The truth is that people want to make out that they are the first people to do something, it's easier to come up with a new genre name than to actually create a new genre, nothing has been new since about 1983!
10. Are they jacks or speakons? The speakon is pretty much self enclosed.
11. Oh I'm not going to touch anything
12. Both of the 15, s would have some poke from that big abm head! No treble but that's ashdown for 'ya
13. What's the power like? I'm expecting plenty of bollocks!
14. Some amps minimum volume is way too loud for the dog and duck, 100watt Marshall without a power soak is too loud to sound good at most pub gigs, put the top cab on as well forget it
15. Yep I'd go for a 2x12 or a pair of 2x10s failing that get a 1x12 then add another one later, single 12 will cover many gigs and 2 will do almost all.
16. Maybe when I can lift it with both hands it will feel lighter Feels really well made and very professional feeling/looking, can't wait to try it out fully, that FET channel is going to Sound ace pushing my big genz cab to the limit!
17. As my arm is broken and I can't actually try playing through my new Shuttle Max 9.2 I thought I might as well just play around with it No idea on the sounds yet but it's so big it's not really a micro head anymore and it's not that light either, then again compared to the same setup of two rack mount preamps and a 900 watt power amp it's tiny! Shuttle 3.0 on top of a Shuttle 6.0 on top of a Shuttle Max 9.2
18.
Maybe they dont have the luxury of having two rigs. And it seems they are the type of guitarists that if you told them to bring a smaller rig, they might not be best pleased.
They both bought 2 cabs each, I presume they knew it was not knebworth?
19. The clip gave me 5 string modulus gas
20.
The suggestion that they should downsize or change their rig isn't realistically going to happen. If I spent a good amount of money and my time investing in my bass rig, then some new guy said to me, "you should change it, its too loud". I wouldn't be best pleased with this new member. Its an unfortunate situation, but the two guitarists will just have to find out the hard way (from a promoter or potential manager or other source) that they are too loud and if they want to push further, they will need to sort it.
I have invested plenty but would still expect to be told not to use my full rig for gigs where it's not required, if someone is using the wrong gear for the gig when they have other options ie their smaller amp I see no problem in telling them?
21.
I found this one the other day about Flea's rig. GK all the way ! http://youtu.be/3ARZGwfhC_U
Nice rack
22.
There are lot like that here too. You may be opening a can of worms.
Tbf I think a lot of the people here who come across like that are just passionate about getting their sound just right for the show, this pair have just gone down the spinal tap route, I'm sure we have all got a mental image of them already.
23. After all the comments I had to watch it too, Awesome lol
24. What you have to realise with people like this is that their agenda is totally different to ours, I presume most of us agree that regardless of whether you play doom, jazz, indie covers, weddings or something so original no one knows what it is yet the aim is to entertain the crowd? We try and play to a suitable crowd to start with to increase our chances and learn the songs at practice to make it run as smoothly as possible, other than that it's a jam and the crowd should appreciate it for that. Now these guys are all about entertaining themselves so as long as someone is prepared to play bass, drums or sing with them then they are happy. There is a band near me where the whole band have this attitude which meens they gig regular too, I can't describe how bad they are but I have now refused to play on the same bill as them which I promise is not like me at all, they bring the whole evening down imo.
25. I have seen them twice since he went to Acoustic, both times he was still using his full GK rig
