1. How much wood have you got left? yes they are purple at the head but red at the bridge.
2. To do that I will need an extra 3mm depending on how much stretch the E string will give which will leave this much timber left, if the anchor breaks that the Stagg written off too!
3. I dont think the E will get anywhere near, I fitted the G first and the silk eneded up a bit shy But I could of eithe counter sunk the ball end a bit or rolled the silk up a bit, then when I fitted the D I could see the problem was getting worse as I went across, If I had gone for the E first I would of been able to send them back for a set of 4/4 instead I will look again but I dont think it will work......
4. I have listed them in the for sale section, now what do I do? 4/4 mittles or still weichs? Jeez this is not good at all!
5. Problem solved no longer for sale
6. That really has gone to sh*t guys what a waste of money! Realistically what can I ask for a brand new set of Spiros E and A never fitted other than to see how short they came up and the D with G with 5cm off the G and some silk damage, 15cm off the D string and a bit of silk damage? Disaster!
7. Hold fire see my new thread!!!!
8. Looks like the 3/4 spiros are too short too me, feck and sake springs to mind in a massive way! Silks are way short of the nut or will they tension up that much? I have already snipped the G and the D a little bit, are they ruined?
9. Strings are here!
10. Dead strings and dead battery? I own both versions, both have plenty of zing
11. Can of spray paint
12.
It's not been as daunting as I expected so far. I'm thinking my agricultural bass guitar style has stood me in good stead. I read the newbie thread. Interesting. I'm not going to go down the jazz or bow avenues. I'm hoping there's a little 'swing' hidden in our songs.
I have been learning to read for a while now so it made sense to link the two together and the bow is just for practising to make the notes last longer whilst trying to intonate, I can't see me playing and bowed gigs!
13. Worked alright for me
14.
well technically isn't it kinda like a rehash of the ones Leo built? Not a bad thing
True but unlike fender just throwing together bits of existing models to make a reissue often technically wrong even when they had the right bits all along the classic rays have required pats not made or fitted on their bases for years by MM or ever by ebmm.
15. I have warmed to the Big Al 5, I would love to try one at some point
16. I did not have anyone to lend one from, my Spiro weichs have still have not come either I have found open string to be my friend, sods law after taking to the five stringers 2 years ago and shifing everything up so doing covers in different keys with different bands would be easier (and it is) I am now trying to convert my fingering to work from the open strings and first few notes (half position Clarky?) Love it
17. And the new >07 (ish) Stingray 5's now have the Alnico pickup and same 3 band EQ as a regular Rays so they are not that different a beast anymore
18. Some harsh comments on the Classic Rays, its not like a Fender rehash really, it has a slab body so thats not off the shelf, strung through strings which is unique to the classic as has its repro pre EB muted bridge, they also come with either a flamed maple or birdseye maple neck rather than an unlaquered plain maple like all the rest For me its still all about either a 2 or 3 band Ray with a single H, just choose your coulour and fingerboard and be done with ya
19. Yes another newbie, welcome to the club mate! I am really enjoying mine even though it is now known as the money pit Have you had a scam through my total noob thread? there is lots of useful stuff the good folk here have told me and sent links to etc obviously mine is a cheapo stagg but a lot of the info will be the same, the strings thread info might be useful (and costly) to you too and what about a bow? I am more excited about playing now than I have in years, enjoy
20. two very worthy causes
21.
That's a cool idea too. It would be a nice way to raise some more money for BC.
I think this is whats Jimryan has gone for mate with half to BC and half to cancer research?
22. 5 strings are not just about extended range and tab is going to be laid out to suit the majority surely?
23.
Haha. I know it's just a bit of fun It's good to be able to recognise the notes on the stave quickly on a computer but it's a different story-and more important-to be able to do it on the instrument. There is a similar thing on Victor Wootens website where it shows you a note and you 'play' it on a bass neck
I used to have the frodis app on my ipod which was brilliant, shows the staff with a note including accidentals and you touch the note on the imaginary bass 4, 5 or 6 string left or right handed bass, I am all android now though
24. I have Paul don't tell me off spent most of yesterday reading/playing from the Rufus Reid evolving bassist book, the game was just for fun
25. The typing holds me back, that's my excuse!
