I have the PRO 17s and they’re very good, they turn my classic rock band from a band that really endangers hearing to a band playing at a volume not unlike that of a home stereo. Additionally unlike some cheaper ones you get a really good balanced sound through them, no focusing and removing specific frequency areas.

Thanks Lozz. That's just the kind of review for the PRO17's that I was hoping to get 👍.

The place we played last week was a bit cramped and I had what is quite possibly the worlds loudest drummer a foot to my left and a PA speaker a foot to my right.

  2. Like a complete numpty, I managed to lose one of the pair of attenuating earplugs I’ve been using for years at last weekends gig.

I’ve had them so long I don’t even recall the make of them. I may as well chuck the other one 🤷‍♂️.

Browsing the web for suitable replacements has led me to ACS and in particular, these - the PRO17 Customs.

At ~£150, they’re not exactly cheap, but you can’t put a price on saving your hearing.

They seem to be the middle of the ACS range and I’m happy to pay the money, even if it does kick me out of the Abstinence Challenge.

I just thought I’d put a post up for any pros/cons for ACS and/or any worthy alternatives to consider.

Have at it Basschatters. I need to get something ordered fairly sharpish.

Abject failure from my end. By the end of February I’d bought an Ashdown ABM head, a comfort strap and a Boss BCB-60.

    Poor effort really from me.

Like a bloke in Orthopaedic shoes, I stand corrected.

You bowed out with style though 👍

My odd questions......nice, thank you. Seems like your only preffered superb threads are DOI. Why i don't post my own opinion - because i don't have one and just want to get it from others.

I'm actually quite content that you don't have an opinion.

Now if you could just stop having questions as well, that might keep everyone happy 😜.

Here's Wiki's full list of inductees year by year. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Rock_and_Roll_Hall_of_Fame_inductees

Can't argue with those inducted between 87 and 89 as these were mostly pioneers and major influences but in each year thereafter ?

Just to make sure I’ve understood you….you’re saying any artist shown inducted post 1989 is not worthy?

That bass sort of rings a bell.  It looks like the bass player on the original track was Larry Klein but I'm pretty sure that's not him on the TOTP appearance.  I'll be interested to know if somebody can identify the instrument - from what I can see, I like the look of it

I don't think that's Larry Klein and I'm fairly sure he wouldn't have come over for TOTP, not for Julia anyway.

It's certainly not Pino, so leaves only Alan Thomson or a.n.other?!?

Sorry, just can't help myself!! Actually did a 'bolt on necks suck' thread last year, so I guess this is just a rehash in disguise! However, quite happy to rein it in for some genuine thoughts on 5K Fender CS basses.

No need to apologise to us. I suspect Jens Ritter knows more than most about the virtues of a bolt-on neck. Maybe give him a call and tell him he's wasting his time 😎.

Consider 3M Dual Lock low profile.  It's more expensive but you don't need much of it at all (1cm² at each corner of a pedal is more than enough), and it holds the pedal considerably more firmly than hook & loop.

I’m firmly in the 3M Dual Lock camp.

I can imagine that a Fender Custom would hold its value but not sure it’s worth it!

    As for ‘badly bolted together’… well, if I had 2 pieces of would, no skill and no money, I’d put one on top of the other and put 4 bolts thru it. If I wanted to join them elegantly and, imho, properly I’d do this;

All in the eyes on the beholder, but to me, that doesn’t look elegant. My eyes want to see those two stripes from the body go all the way up the neck. Instead, there’s a piece of wood of nearly but not quite the same colour, with a single stripe. Plus, that cavity plate 🤮.
Not for me, but we’re all different, so I’m glad it works for you.

As @Lozz196 and @Reggaebass have said, in my experience, FCS basses are far from two badly bolted together pieces of wood. The ones I’ve had/have definitely are not. I’m not sure I’d go to £5k for one, although the burl top J does look very nice

Dull is subjective. It’s a plodding, low energy song.

I don’t despise Queen (whilst also not being a fan) - they have far better songs to choose IMO.

Of course, dullness and dislike are both subjective, but I play it in my Queen tribute (obviously) and it's also in my rock covers band set. It never fails to be a great sing-along.

It may, however, feel slightly out of place amongst a 90's rock/metal/grunge thing.

Am currently learning We Are The Champions because my guitarist thinks it’ll be a great singalong anthem to slot in the set.

I hate it. It’s dull, and it won’t work with our 90’s rock/metal/grunge thing. It’s going to stick out like a sore thumb. I’m having a mental block over it, presumably because I hate it so much.

I can sense a band discussion on the horizon.

You might hate it, but I wouldn't describe it as dull. It has some interesting segments in it as recorded, as do most John Deacon bass lines.

Intriguing! I didn’t know Status had produced a 33” scale SeriesII. Does the bass have a bendwell (probably not, I think the latter takes the scale down to 32” - it did on my Streamlines… I think)?

Apologies, typo. I've amended the post to what it should be - 32" scale.

    It does have a bend-well.

Heading out on tour in May and I can't wait! Anyone interested in the St Albans gig, sadly I will be depped as clashes with my holiday 🫤

Would be great to see any of you...!

St.Albans was the one I would have gone to - had you been there 😎

  14. Scale is not that important to me, however, I did try a short scale Stingray (one of the Joe Dart ones IIRC - not sure what the scale would have been) in a shop near Shuker HQ once and I really didn’t like it at all. The over-riding factor for me is neck width/depth. My one concession to less than 34” is a 32" scale Status Series 2 five string which I absolutely love.

Anyhow questlove Is an important figure in African American and also American music. He was or still is in the iconic band Roots.

I’ll check him out. Just read that he had some involvement with the film Bamboozled which means my ears have crossed paths with his work already.
