"Why do we call them kettle leads?". Are we allowed to put kettle leads in new kettles these days anyway? It's just not bass players who call them kettle leads, everyone in the IT industry does as well which causes problems when it turns out we need one of the bigger chunkier IEC connectors rather than the normal non-kettle lead :-)

Spare connectors (Speakon, 6.35mm, Phono, XLR) various connector/adaptors/gender changers/extenders kettle lead tuner towel spare bass strap water spare strings (never used) spare 9V power supply with multi end adaptor. With the exception of the strings I've needed all of these or wanted to have them at a gig/rehearsal at some point... I use a soft camera bag (like a small-medium sized narrow backpack) which keeps things vaguely organised...However it's too small for my guitar stand, which is no biggy as I have lots of other stuff to lug as well... cheers Mark

Just to add - although a second 8 ohm cab will make the most of your MAG300 and there will be more speaker to move more air as well - I only use mine for practice - for gigs I use an Ashdown RPM-1/APM1000 (1KW power amp) with a Warwick Terminator cab (2x15, 2x10 plus horn) not because it's that much louder, but because it sounds more dynamic and open...

It's evil, but what a hook :-) and as you say the bass run from 2:45 on is quite fine... :-)

Not so Tiny Ashdown RPM-1/APM-1000 rig - I like the ability to Bi-amp more than anything else about this setup.. I have a spare Amcron GeoDyne II that I can use as a backup, and a no-name active crossover/graphic EQ that in extremis can function as a preamp.. Now wait for the posts about transformers and slew rates in power amplifiers being the most important thing rather than pure RMS power.. :-) (ducks and hides)..

Listen to Bill... As someone who rehearses with a MAG300 15 Combo I might be able to add some more detail... The MAG 300 only makes 180W into the internal (8 Ohm) speaker and just over 300W when you plug an external 8 Ohm Cab for a total impedence of 4 Ohm. From personal experience with an external 15" cab I can confirm that two speakers are louder than one. I've also replaced the internal Blue line driver with an Eminence Kappalite 3515C which although an improvement, in retrospect was not the most cost effective thing I've ever done :-) Although moving cone surface area is important (the 4 x 10 argument) speaker cone excursion is also important (XMAX) as well as cab design (ported vs sealed for instance). Also most 4 x 10's are bleeding heavy... Look in other threads on here for a discussion on VD and cab design... Cheers Mark

Found the following over on BGRA - may have some perspective... "Bartolini: "NS2TMB-183", 18 Volts. Bass This is Bill Bartolini's latest and most refined design. It is quieter and more transparent than anything else out there (108 dB S/N, THD .003% @ 100Hz) and really sounds good. To quote from the spec sheet "The (bipolar) +9V/ -9V system allows a completely DC coupled signal path. There are no capacitors to diminish in any way the low end punch, clarity and frequency response of the instrument". Bill has used wide bands that overlap slightly to avoid the honky sound of other midrange controls. The 250Hz mid could be useful as a cut option when recording." Now all we need to know are the benefits of a completely DC coupled signal path :-)

May also be worth pointing out that when I was looking to replace the 8 Ohm driver in my Ashdown MAG300 all the 4 ohm versions of the drivers were 3 db less efficient than the 8 Ohm ones .. So I I fitted an 8 Ohm 3015 Kappalite for obvious reasons.. Also as everyone says make sure your amp is guaranteed stable into 2 ohms....

Just thought I'd introduce myself, returning/recovering Bass/Keys from Stratford upon Avon.. Playing keys in one band and bass in the other, which is fun... The Bass player in my keys band has fallen in love with my Ashdown RPM-1/APM-1000 setup - so if anyone know of one going for sale just let me know and I'll point you at him/him at you... Cheers Mark
