Up for sale is this beautiful 1966 reissue Jazz Bass in olympic white with matching headstock. Only 132 of these were made for export so they can be hard to come by. Upgrades: 1. Gotoh lollipop tuners for that true '66 vibe (original clovers included) 2. Genuine Fender USA pickguard - I prefer red tortoiseshell over brown (original brown included) 3. I buffed the back of the neck to a satin finish - so smooth! There are a couple of dings, some buckle rash and the finish has cracked slightly around the neck bolts. It plays beautifully and I'm sure I'll regret selling it but needs must. Comes with a Thomann hard case which is in VGC. Buyer collects or pays postage or meet halfway within a reasonable distance.

Looking for a bassist to replace me in a 6-piece band (drums, bass, guitar, keys, sax, vocals). Lots of gigs in the diary for 2022 with more on the way. Mostly in Kent and SE London but a few further afield too. Own gear and transport is essential. Experience and knowledge of the genre is also important. We don't rehearse that often but when we do it's in Dartford. The guys in the band are all good players and are really nice people. The reason I'm leaving is because I don't want to gig as much as they do. Shame because it's a fun band. *edit - mainly covers but there are a couple of originals in the set. PM me and I’ll put you in touch with the drummer - he is ‘head of recruitment’ 😄. Cheers, Ray

All good advice. Thank you all. I think I've settled on a solution that will stop me tone hunting, at least for a while - I've set up my Aguilar TH500 in my practice room with the send going to my interface. I never really got on with the drive knob before but since reading some of the BC threads on how it works with the EQ I've found a tone I really like. The fan noise bothers me a bit so I might have to get the Tonehammer pedal for practice. Right! Off to YouTube to look at Tonehammer reviews then..! 😂

Yep. I bought an Aguilar DB925 a few weeks ago. Loved it for a while. Now I’m thinking it’s fairly pointless. It beefs up my tone a bit when I’m practicing plugged directly into my interface (not bothered about using it live as I’m happy with my amp as is) but I never used to care much about my tone when practicing. Why do I care now? 😖

Don’t put ideas in my head! I need inspiration to go back to no effects! 😂😂😂

I like simplicity. P bass, cable, amp. This lets me focus on my playing, my technique, learning songs etc. This approach has served me well for years until I got the call for a great gig that requires an octave pedal - so I bought one. There are a couple of slap tunes too. Haven’t slapped for a few years so I thought I’d better get a compressor to help even out my playing - so I did. Now I’m obsessing about which drive/preamp pedal I could get just colour my tone a bit while practicing so it doesn’t sound so dry. I find myself spending hours on YouTube looking at reviews for pedals instead of playing and practicing. I used to be content just plugging directly into my interface and off I went. How do I get back to that? Is that even possible? 😂

I spent around 2 hours the other day on YouTube just playing along to different versions of Georgia On My Mind.

My '01 American Standard P dressed up like a '58.

Down for the Count is a great band! Yes, The Fantastics. New album out later this year so we should be (hopefully!) gigging regularly again.

Yeah, he's class. A bassist's dream! In which band do play with James?
-
Thanks! Actually no. I play regularly with the drummer. The keys player and flautist are friends from the local scene but I rarely get to play with them, unfortunately. In fact, the keys and flute guys have never even met the drummer! That's one good thing about lockdown, I guess - working with musicians you wouldn't normally get the chance to work with.

Thank you so much 🙏

I got together with some of my pals to record this recently. It's one of my favourite tunes to play. Hope you enjoy it!

Evening all. I have a 2004 Fender American Standard Jazz (the one with the S-1 switch) and have been looking online for the specs to see if the pickups are the same as the current Fender Original Jazz Bass Pickups seen here: https://shop.fender.com/en-GB/parts/jazz-bass-parts/fender-original-jazz-bass-pickups/0992123000.html?rl=en_US Does anyone know if Fender used these pickups in the American Standard before they started fitting the Custom Shop 60s as standard? And if not, how do they compare to the pickups in the 2004 American Standard? The reason I ask is I have two Jazz basses - an American Standard and an MIJ '66 reissue. I would like to change the pickups in both. I'm pretty much set on the CS60s for the American Standard so was thinking if my current USA pickups are the same as those in the link above I could just transfer them into the '66 MIJ. I'm after something period correct for the '66 MIJ and as these pickups are now used in the American Vintage series they should fit the bill. Thanks in advance 🙂
