Erm... are they any good though?

Bit of a munter...

A common debate here. I wasn't aware of the celebrity endorsement models... I'd take each on their own merits as an instrument and make sure you don't pay too much for the name..

I'm basing my guess on how amateur it looks and the mailto popup with a gmail address when you click though.
But then again it's on his facebook page as well.
Meanwhile I tend to have the Carol Kaye video with him running through the back of my mind first when anyone mentions him
Aw considering the crap he comes out with, particularly about women, I thought he was very respectful with her as he gets schooled!

P.s you and how many others will be there...

And what was your take on it?
Erm, thank you for asking @EBS_freak - that's very polite for the internet. So I think Matt might have wanted to another signature artist to go with a different form factor. The AJ is quite different for example. Let's face it, despite their phenomenal talent as players, they're probably not making a particularly good living so any income stream, like a signature model commission, is probably highly prized and an overlap a perceived incursion into the signature space responded to with some wariness. I do think Matt Garrison created a 'thing': 4-finger technique + ramp (arguably a Gary WIllis innovation) + a 5-string high 'C' = Matt's thing. For the record, I'm all in with it having seen him in a tiny club in Manchester tearing it up with Gary Husband and Randy Brecker! Yes, quite a line up. So along comes Janek who puts his name to an ostensibly similar model. Does it matter? Probably a bit to Matt although I don't suppose there was any intent from Janek to plagiarise Matt's bass, Janek I think just liked similar features and was offered a commission.
Re. crowd funding for a Wal - again Janek did not say that was his intention - but! In reaching his viewer goals, he would earn enough to afford a Wal and go ahead and get one and probably film it for his channel, so not an explicit crowd-funding campaign but resulting in a similar result. So there you go... That's my take and it's the rough and tumble of being a creator and making yourself the centre of attention.
I'd end with a perspective of Janek as an artist and record of his which is wonderful: see below

That's a looker. F Bass are having a moment with Scott SBL Devine getting a signature too. Guess creator endorsements are more important than artist endorsements these days?

Hmm... the original is more about majesty than groove. It's marvellous.
And Sally Oldfield's 'annoyingly folky' vocals are intended to be more choir soloist than folk, I think.
The live one above misses the point completely IMO.I thought it was rather good. Each to their own.

The reply to the charge of crowd-funding a Wal...

Oof! Urge to play 'Love Games'!

Aww, raised my expectations for some mid-80s Jazz Funk bass porn then dashed them. Get a photo up to charge the debate...

@Old Man Riva I was going to post this too! Great analysis of the 'Too Shy' line...

Rare to hear an artist talk with such candour about the tribulations of having a bass associated with you...

So yours, at least, are rampant?
Eeh!

My ramps are alive and kicking thanks... I think the answer to the OP's question is that the Gary Willis/Matthew Garrison 4-finger right-hand style is not so prominent or popular at the moment but ramps are still a fixture on many high-end basses destined for jazz use.

PS they've just released a fretless version too now... https://www.ibanez.com/na/products/detail/ehb1005f_1p_01.html

I went for a new EHB1006MS in the end. No complaints about the build quality. Not wild about the finish colour but I bought it for the form factor which as you say @thebassist, is really good.
It's light, balances well and with active and passive electronics, is great for long sessions at the DAW.
I agree with your point about strings @Lfalex v1.1, the Dingwalls look really good but not wild about sourcing extra long strings - not that I should worry as I rarely change mine.
Only complaint with the Ibby is that the ramp is too shallow to be usable out of the box so I had to jack mine with gaffer tape layering which you can just see below.
This pic has reminded me to remove the pick-up plastic scratch protectors!

This guy knows his way around the bass and his articulation in the examples is second to none! Enjoy...

Erm so you went to the trouble of doing a great job of respraying but to one of Ibby's other EHB production colours!?
Why not buy this?:
