1. One of just a few more bumps (don't worry, I won't be bumping the current sales endlessly - these will be going off on consignment soon if they don't sell here)

4.
It's mounted at an angle, so the strings pass clean over the back easily.
Ahh...that explains it - thanks - fantastic looking bass (and I can imagine it sounds incredible), I'm rather envious!
5. I've not seen one of these for years - fantastic! I too would go for nickels - it might be worth talking to Newtone - they'll wind anything to your spec. (not cheap but I've found the strings and service to be excellent). As an aside, did the Badass come as standard on this bass - it seems odd that the octave strings need to run over the back of the bridge (maybe there's a slot in the bridge for this purpose?)
6. Bump for new details (neck stamp and component dates etc.)
7. 'Other way round for me - I kind of lost interest in music (and became entirely disenchanted with/alienated from the music business more than 15 years ago) but enjoy playing bass more than ever...if that makes any sense at all...
8.
PM sent
Thanks PM in response
9.
Oh, nice from my birthday year ...
Go on, treat yerself! I'd love one from mine but that'd be first year of production (thus a tad expensive!)
10. Very, very lovely - I've come over all funny
11. Just checked - it is 17mm string spacing
12. Thank you all and err...bump
13. Thanks for the comments - it's really rather a lovely bass - I'll try to get some better photographs up asap (the pictures here don't capture the colour well at all - it's a really nice two-tone burst)
14.
Just like London buses, You keep your eyes open for a 5 string Sei & two come along at once! And both of them lovely as well Is it 34" scale with 17mm string spacing?
It's certainly 34" and I think the spacing is around 17mm - I'll measure tomorrow - cheers!
15. Thanks for the help - it'd be nice to see the bass move soon (and local?)
By the way, I might know someone who's interested, I'll keep you posted.
16.
Exactly what I wanted before I got the Overwater. Stunning bass, this will fly out I'm sure.
'Bet you're chuffed with the Overwater though - it looks gorgeous!
17. NOW REDUCED TO £825 FOR A LIMITED PERIOD THE BASS WILL BE WITHDRAWN ON 7TH APRIL For sale, Sei Jazz 4 - ash body, flamed maple neck, rosewood board with gorgeous abalone block inlays. I'm selling nearly all my long-scale basses following a move to short(er) scales Electronics are 3 band with passive tone (9v - I'm not sure what the circuit is) with Bartolini J and P pickups. The bridge is a Badass. The bass is around seven years old but in excellent condition. The only marks in the lacquer are slight impressions where the pickup covers have been fitted (I have the covers and these are included in the sale). The bass is very light and resonant and has that real boutique quality - it's typical of Martin's stunning work. The concept behind this bass was to construct a typical '70s style Jazz but with real attention to detail, very high quality parts and some modern refinements. The result certainly fits the bill - it isn't as exotic as some Seis but it's a beautifully built classic in fantastic condition. The bass comes with a cheap generic, rectangular hard case (brown with yellow plush interior) - it isn't too styish but it does the job. The bass is in extremely clean condition (I gave it a very good going over when it came to me and it's been polished and maintained since) but needs some decent strings and a proper set-up. Playability is good now with a medium to low action. I'd take the action down as there's a bit more relief in the neck than I'd normally have, however, I don't want to mess about with the rod. I re-strung the bass recently with cheap and somewhat dull medim guage strings. Selling price is £825 firm (this reflects the price of a set-up) - REDUCED FOR A LIMITED PERIOD (from £875) I'm selling a lot of basses but have little time to put into marketing etc. All basses advertised will go on consignment sale in the next week or two. I wanted to put them up on here first to let BCers have a first chance (at a reduced price). Pricing reflects what I'd expect to realise post-brokerage fee (with a reduction for fellow forumites). Collection from central Manchester or professional packaging and carriage (around £80 extra). I will send overseas but charges will be higher. I'll try to answer emails or can talk by 'phone. I'm afraid that I have very little time due to pressure of work (hence consignment sales will start rapidly unless there's quick interest here) - telephone contact is preferable to PMs but a PM to start things rolling is good. Price is firm. Please check out ads for: Sei Jazz 4; Fender Masterbuilt Jazz fretless; Fender Jazz '76 (original) Cheers, Lozbass
18. SOLD For sale - Sei Jazz 5 with amboina burl (I think) top, swamp ash body, rosewood board and (heavily flamed) maple neck. I'm selling nearly all my long-scale basses following a move to short(er) scale The bass is in very good condition with just a few marks and tiny impressions in the finish on the back (and a tiny mark on the edge of the headstock). Electronics are Bart 3 band (9v) and the pickups are Wizard custom wounds - the sound is very modern but versatile and slightly compressed (really high quality and hifi as you'd expect). This is an excellent example of Martin's work and the whole bass just exudes boutique quality. As far as I know, the bass is around 6 years old (age can be confirmed with Martin). Playability is fabulous and the action is super low following a Ged Green set-up with light d'Addario nickels. The bass comes in an excllent and 'as new' Fodera hard case (teardrop shape - it has a bit of a strange smell when opened - typical of Fodera TKL cases I'm told). Apologies for the poor photographs but these should give you some impression of quality and condition. Selling price is £1100 firm I'm selling a lot of basses but have little time to put into marketing etc. All basses advertised will go on consignment sale in the next week or two. 19. NOW REDUCED TO £1400 LIMITED TIME OFFER - TO BE WITHDRAWN ON 7TH APRIL For Sale - Fender Jazz '76 - natural ash with maple board and blocks Major sell-off - clearing all long-scale basses (pretty much) - I'm only playing short(er) scales This is a really cool vintage Jazz: the bass was imported from New York around six years ago - it's been around and shows some playwear but nothing nasty. It's a gorgeous player with tons of honk and growl or a more mellow, bassy tone at the neck pickup (it's fairly typical of a very good mid '70s Jazz). The bass is all original apart from a replacement nut (a very high-quality and professional job - the new nut is extremely well-cut and beautifully seated) and a replacement thumb-rest. The strap toggles and screws in the scratchplate have also been changed (the former for straplok ready) but I have the originals and will include them. The original ashtrays are long gone but the bass comes with its original hard case (in good condition for 33 years old). The finish is down to the primer in a few patches on the body but the finish in general isn't bad. There's a fair bit of wear in the usual places and it looks like a previous owner used a pick fairly vigorously. The poly finish is fairly thick and yellowed on the front and back of the body - with the wear the bass looks really cool. The chrome-work is original and in excellent condition. It's a fantastic player with a great sound - the pickups are very strong (I had resistance tested during set-up but can't remember the values off-hand - I have them in an email somewhere if required). The bass is heavy but extremely resonant and sounds great unplugged. Everything appears to check out - the green neck stamp is faded but reads (from memory) is 02 03 -1 6 * (last number indistinct). Pots are from 4th month '76. The date on the neck pickup is unreadable (usual sticky black coating with age), but the bridge pickup dates to '75. The serial is 69**** on the 3 bolt neck plate. The bass appears to have been assembled and finished in early '76 and displays typical features of the period, TV logo etc. (rather than the features that were introduced in the mid to late '76) Set up (beautifully) by Steve Robinson at ManchesterGuitar Tech - strung with d'Addario nickels - action is low, playability fantastic and tone is pure and classic mid '70s Jazz. Selling price is £1400 firm (REDUCED from £1450 for limited period only) I'm selling a lot of basses but have little time to put into marketing etc. All basses advertised will go on consignment sale in the next week or two. 20. NOW REDUCED TO £1600 FOR A LIMITED PERIOD THIS BASS WILL BE WITHDRAWN ON 7TH APRIL For Sale - Fender Jazz Fretless - Masterbuilt by Denis Galuska Major sell-off - clearing all long-scale basses (pretty much) - I only play short(er) scale Absolutely breathtaking Jazz fretless - around 3 years old (a unique and custom one-off) from Fender Masterbuilder In 'as new' condition apart from marking (impressions and lacquer cracks by the screw-holes) under the bridge cover. Marks are invisible when the cover is fitted. I've discussed repair with 5 or 6 luthiers and all say it can't be done. The only option is a full body respray (the damage is actually rather minor but irritating - it was caused by Fender when the bass was returned to have some initial problems attended to - i.e., the wrong tuners had been fitted and holes for the pickup covers were absent when the bass was originally shipped) 2 tone sunburst nitro finish - genuinely gorgeous (it looks 3t in the poor quality photographs but isn't - sorry, my photography skills leave much to be desired) The most lovely Fender I've seen or played by some distance Commissioned around four years ago - not gigged or rehearsed - around 30 hours playing time in total Fretless ebony board with markers as for fretted Original case and all case candy (including certificate) in as new and flawless condition - the strap was fitted for a short time but is unmarked Original receipt and paperwork included (original purchase price was £3600) Selling price is £1600 firm (REDUCED FROM £1700 FOR A LIMITED PERIOD ONLY) Set up by Martin at the Gallery - strung with La Bella slappers - action is super low and playability and tone are just stunning I'm selling a lot of basses but have little time to put into marketing etc. All basses advertised will go on consignment sale in the next week or two. 21. Lovely veggie lunch and back to topic - I've just checked, Alembic straps are manufactured by Moody (but seem to have an extra layer - replicating the 'hippie sandwich' - when compared to the standard Moody). These are excellent, very soft, very wide (4") and comfortable straps...but there's a lot of leather in there so out for some veggies. I think Alembic charge around $150, Moody around $150-230 (pre delivery and taxes etc.) so not a cheap option.
22. Haha - what lovely, gentle, sensitive people we bassplayers are!
23. I like the d'Addarios that you have, however, I prefer a lighter gauge (I play shorter scale basses most of the time). I have some handwound strings from Newtone but they're expensive. For ligher gauge 'cheap' strings, I use four from a set of d'Addario Jerry Jones Barritone strings - the tension is very light (just how I like it). I can't remember the gauges off the top of my head but can find out if you're interested
