Don't shout at me all you 5 and 6 stringers but I thought I would address the lack of 4 string TRB's with my lovely brown satin TRB4 which I've had since new from 1994.

This is one of the best basses I've ever played and owned and I will NEVER get rid, absolutely love it :)

Could be an orginal, Fretless TRBs were made for a good while and had wooden line markers (well some did!)

Well the TRB was designed as a 5/6 (mainly 6) string bass! But the 4 strings are just as lovely!

I am as sure as i can be that the bass was produced in the Yamaha factory as a fretless.

The bass has a great tone and has the best neck shape / profile of all the TRB's that i have owned, very easy to play.

I love the look of your 4 stringer :)

It looks ver similar to a black 4 string TRB that Mike Rutherford played with "Genisis"

Yeah it does a bit, I didn't realise he played one until I saw them a few years ago.

Bought this beauty off a fellow basschatter a few weeks ago. Its one of the newer reissues but I'm sure you won't mind :)

Its really hard to photograph the finish. In person it has a bit of a green tinge to it, for some reason photos make it seem much more blue than it really is! I think the headstock photo is probably the most representative of what it really looks like :)

And here it is, my Xmas present from myself! :D

This bass is beautiful!
Photos don't do it justice, it must be seen live to appreciate the colours.

Tone wise it has plenty of growl and piano-like highs, with a bit of knob twisting it can access a good range of sounds, even if the mids knob is really really sensitive. Chording is a pleasure!
I don't slap much, but for the little I tried I'm really comfortable with the string spacing, and for the fingerstyle now I'm just a couple days into it but I'm already getting comfortable with that (coming from a 6stringer with narrower spacing). The neck is fast.

I LOVE the impressive width of the fingerboard...aircraft landing size! :D

Construction quality is really top notch, the top has a nice contrast, and I LOVE the pearl tuners...Inlay work is beautiful too!!

I'll bring it to do some setup (the action can be set lower and I'd like that :D ) and it needs small sanding on the 21th fret, G string height (there is a small bump in the fret). Probably will get a removable ebony ramp as well :P

All in all, I'm still in the process of 'feeling at home' with the instrument, but I'm already loving it!

Happy holidays everyone!! :D

I'd just like to add in here that I'm serious about looking for a TRB5 (P) at 34" scale or even a TRB 4 at a push. I've both a Clover Expression 15.5 and an ACG Gallus Graft 5 that I'd consider trading as well as cash.

Did I post any pics of my 6P? Great basses :)

Peter

pearl tuners?
[/quote]

Always one of my favourite things, aesthetically, about the second generation of Patitucci TRB's. That said, I'd hate to knock one, I'm sure it would break them and it would be a faff trying to source another one from Yamaha!

Yeah, inlay work is really amazing.
For the pearl tuners, I'm fearful about them too for what dings and knocks are concerned, but they put a smile on my face every time I take the bass off its (haaaard) case :D
I guess my GAS has been toned down by about 200% since I own the thing! :)

Hi guys,

Since last Saturday, I have been the proud owner of aTRB5 Fretless in cherry sunburst. Its my first fretless and I have been blown away by the sound and nature of the instrument. Only thing is I bought it without a hardcase and I am not keen on using gigbags when transporting. Obviously, it will take me time to get used to the dynamics of the instrument so I am only playing her at home then I will take her for service, setup etc.
Does anyone of you TRB'ers know where I can purchase a Yamaha hardshell case?
I will post a picture of Candy when I get home!

FYI- I think this is a great thread, I will be back for more answers! Stay low.

Hi all,

I just wanted to share this,

I have been very fortunate over the last few months as i have meen able to try out and play a few different bass guitars.
I played some rather expensive instruments which were fantastic,

I had not played my Yamaha TRB 6 II for a while , so , i picked her up and started to noodle about :)
I forgot just how brilliant these bass guitars are !
I played about on my bass and every note and string just rings out all the way up the neck , clear and precise , just beautiful.

I think that you would have to spend an awfull lot of money (£ 1500 ?) just to get any where near these monsters.

It is like picking up a new bass guitar all over again :)
