Hi there basschat community,

I've been registered to BC for a couple of months now but have only just got around to introducing myself.

Been playing c20 years, now doing all different kinds of stuff. Jazz work on double bass, function and corporate plus modern jazz on electric with a trio project.

Gear wise I'm reliant mainly on either my Fender JB or another of the various items in the stable. Fless 5s and 4s, home grown 5 E-C or fretted 6 (currently a Warwick $$ that I'm looking to trade). The double bass is a Kremona Rubner model that I bought a few years ago from Steve Laws of Sandarac music - very good instrument and well underrated.

Ampwise I use the F1 for small stuff and have recently gone back to green for larger work on Trace AH400. I've just rackmounted this with my midiverb and it is killer with my 8x10 Hartke XL. Various cabs graze on my cab farm getting a run out depending on the gig - Harkte 4x10 XL, Epifani UL110 and a Dr Bass 1260 to name a few.

I'm not quite sure how much time I'll have to browse the site but I'm planning to try and make some space to get around the various forums. I'm kind of falling into the trap of not making enought time for new things and I've got to kill that off.

For now I guess I'd love to hear from you, especially if you have any views on the 6 string world. With my modern jazz hat on I'm heavily influenced by Patitucci, Matt Garrison and Tony Greys sounds and I'm currently looking for a 6 to do what the Warwick doesn't. I did have an Alembic MK-5 balanceK body but sold that on last year, it was great but just not quite right and here I am a year later..... you all know how it goes.

Anyways, take it easy.

Andy
Welcome aboard. Curious about going back to an AH400 for larger work - do you not think the F1 more than a match in volume/punch?
Well you kinda right, it's more about the tone. I do quite a lot of smaller gigs and to be honest it's just not worth it, sometimes not even viable, to have a larger head to truck around. If the AH400 were as small and portable as the F1 I'd use it all the time.
The F1 is great and completely neutral, this works just fine (especially on double bass) but I kind of prefer something with a little colour for electric bass. I used to use an Ampeg SVT5 prior to the Trace, this was also great but the Trace has a little more warmth, a bit more burp (which I like) and really great compression facilities. Being completely honest I do also like the blue light.
Taking a step back I think there are loads of great sounding amps out there, nothing is out and out better than the others which is probably why I end up changing my gear every so now and again. The great and distinctive thing about the F1 for me is it's size - using it with an Epifanin UL110 is a great combination for small work.
Anyhow thanks for the welcome, I'll switch off my blah for now!
Regs,
Andy
