Musicman pup

Hi,

I have my eye on a Stingray clone, mainly for use as a cheap-but-good rehearsal and "beater" bass. It's passive, and that's how I'd keep it. I'm looking for a deep, rich, full tone without it being too thumpy or indistinct, maybe with the option of series/parrallel switching to give some tonal options. Any suggestions for a drop-in replacement pup, please?

Steve

A lot of people recommend the Nordstrand as the closest to the Stingray tone, although I've not sure how they sound passive.

I've got Delano MM Pickups in my Shuker and Sandberg and would highly recommend them, although they're not the cheapest option. They've got the Stingray character but, too my ears, they have a bit more clout in the bottim end.

Is this a Vintage Musicman copy? I had one and put a Nordstrand in it. I couldn't wait to get the Wilkinson one back on - the Nordstrand sounded really boring, for want of a better word - dull, flat, uninteresting. When you look at what goes into a bass pickup, I think anything over £100 is definitely taking the mickey.
