Went to see a band called Kong (myspace.com/kongdom). Had a very distinctive look of all red with wierd doll/plastic surgery latex masks. pretty cool noise band. Not sure how this contributes to the discussion but they had changed into civvies once they came to the bar for a drink.
That's dirty as hell. They all look like serial killers.

Many years back I played in a band called Big Vern 'n' the Shootahs who made a lot of effort and paid a lot of dosh to have cool suits handmade - as there was 9 of us at the time having suits made was a considerable outlay. So we got two each, as you do. Home strip, and away kit !!
Anyway, I no longer play with them, but still have the suits - one of which I wear on stage to this day !! It's black with oversized white pinstripes with black and white tartan sleeves. I wear a black shirt with either a red, white or black tie ( I often look at the gig and see if theres a colour theme and try to match a tie to it - always goes down really well with the client ! ) and have a pair of black and white Zebra skin brothel creepers. Oh and shades and a hat. Sometimes I feel a little overdressed but I ALWAYS get complements and very, very often people ask to have their photo taken with me which is kinda cool too !!
I'm 6ft 1 and 18 stone so I'm hard to miss !!
The rest of the band tend to wear variations on a black theme, so it works well. !
There you go, I guess what I'm saying is it's worth making the effort.
Ive been meaning to bring this topic up recently, my band played a battle of the bands in December, and got through to the final, but one thing the judges commented on was our style or 'image' . This has come up at a few events we've played so I was going to start a thread asking for advice, but i mays as well do it here, here is our website: Offset

and heres a couple of photos from said gig... whats wrong?
What were the winners wearing?

Well that guitar strap's dangerously twisted :)

What's that white thing ?

Pants on the ground
... Yeah I know, I'm old and I don't understand the attraction but, hey, if the women your age like it ...
Mind you I also don't "get" that contemporary comb-over look your singer has, but then again I'm not a 17 year old girl.

Overall the problem is you look polite and safe, like you mums would approve. You are also dressed exactly the same as a million other kids on any given Saturday in any city centre in the UK.

If you want to convince your audience you are potentially this town's next big thing you have to look and act the part ... it's supposed to be dangerous.... you want your mum and dad to say "you arn't going out like that are you?"

Easiest and cheapest change would be traditional black jeans and various tee shirts, accessories and some hair gunk. Go for cliche until you find yoru own style.

Oh and look at your audience, not your fret boards, and cop a rock star pose...
Acting and looking like you are stars is half the battle at battle of the bands.. Playing well is decidedly secondary..

We were the winners of that heat, but we're playing the final in april, and would like to get an 'image' sorted by then!

Thats guitarists for you!

It was a glowstick, we had a bit of a glowstick theme, we threw them to the crowd to wave etc.. it worked really well!

I have to say, I'm not a fan either, but he likes it so...
The judges actually said our singer looked good onstage, and was talking about the rest of the band, problem is, I'd look a bit of a twat with strait hair and pink bits!!

anyway, thanks for the advice!
