Much better than any I could take :)

Gigged the Ergon last night. A few pick up height tweaks as I went along and it is great.
On the P pickup it sounds like an Alder P bass which is basically what it is under the curvy skin
A nice warm thickish P bass sound with good mid punch and great articulation, fast response and good sustain..

A little J pickup adds a little bark. Full J pickup on a noodle over the Walk on the Wild Side riddim had Dai our Guitar/Keys/Banjo/Madolin player, who also plays bass of course, leaping out from behind his keys to stare at the bass to see how I was making the Jaco tone . He'd not noticed the J pickup. I'd been inspired by the Jaco documentary on the radio on the way to the gig. :)
That gave I a laff ....

A few muscles ache today, as the playing position is a tad different, and I missed the B string. I've been playing the P5 in this band since I got it 4 years ago so that's understandable.

At home I thought the lack of forearm chamfer would be a problem but live it was fine.

Oh and the gig was fabulous.

Getting your custom bass delivered is a bit like meeting your pen pal for the first time in the flesh after a year or so's correspondence.
You know a lot about it but it's not until you spend serious time together that you can equalise all aspects of the relationship.

It may not take my customary year to get used to this one but it will take a while and a few gigs before it feels as natural as my other basses. After all I've had a P bass of some sort since 1973 and one feels very much like another.
This is different.

Thanks. It's very "different" for sure. Seems to be a bit Marmite for some people :) I like it though ...

Mark Graham and I were arranging a get together to compare our new W&T basses and Mark Stickley at Bass Direct offered to open on a Sunday afternoon for a mini bass bash ..
It's not limited to Wood & tronics basses but if you fancy a go on mine come along ..

A little update.

I've now played one of each of my types of regular gigs: Rocky barn dance with my band and deps with an acoustic barn dance band and a rocky covers band.

The Ergon is great in all three. I guess it's Precision bass genes show through. I believe a P bass can manage 90% of bass jobs, with a decent amp and the right EQ, and the Ergon has the woods, structure and electronics of a classic Precision with the added J pickup for bark.

I'm getting the hang of it and what the J pickup can add and things are looking very good.

The photographer at the last dep wedding gig I played asked me what it was. Turned out to be yet another bass player (3 in the room that I knew about, including the guy I was depping for ^_^ ). The snapper had a Ric at home and I'm off to see him play in a few weeks :)

I'll be going back to my Shuker 5 string for my band's gigs as I missed the B string on that gig but the W&T will be out for the deps and jams.

So, very happy chappy here..

Also a reminder for the W&T minibash at Bassdirect in April. Link below.

when you next speak to the W&T boyos, can you please ask them to update their website?
Some of us bass porn users need a dose a little more regularly than they're providing...

Your Wish has been granted :)

Just in case you were interested, W&T have seriously updated their website. It's got a lovely light up red bass on the home page and lots of nice new pictures in the galleries

Si,
looks like the site is down at the moment.
I've been trying to get on for about the last 30 minutes.
Hopefully a temporary server glitch or summat. :)

Only managed a quick look, but if you want me to cast a "professional eye" over it I'll see if I can fit some time in over the weekend.
