Playing Bass and Singing

I'm almost certain there has been a thread on this before but i tried searching and couldn't find it!

Basically, Our band is moving into more of a 2 lead singer situation with me stepping up to take over some of the songs, but so far i have only really sung without playing bass at the same time. Now i need to start doing both.

So, i need your top tips on how to accomplish this! Does anybody here do it? Do you just simplify? I'm not sure i can do this when the rhythm of the singing is mismatched with the bass playing/chord changes. i.e. Can't Get Enough Of Your Love by Bad Company.
