His name is Ney Conceicao and he is the bass player on Joao Bosco’s Live DVD (2006) ‘Obrigado Gente!’. Great bass solo on the opening track. Here is a transcription I have done for Ney's solo on Incompatibilidade De Genios, the Youtube clip below - it starts at around 2.35 and is played on a six-string bass through some sort of octave divider tuned up an octave rather than down, sounding like a pseudo steel drum. fusionbassist1 Posted September 3, 2009 Share Posted September 3, 2009 really great sounding band, nice how there's a hell of a lot of them together without it sounding like a mess in any way at all and with a really nice grove. Not too keen on the bass player's solo though :/ mainly because of him playing right up high on a C (or higher?) string and with a tone that doesn't please me 'ickle ol' ears. Faithless Posted December 4, 2009 Share Posted December 4, 2009 Just back from a our local "Kaunas Jazz' festival, winter concert.. It was Lenny Andrade, gorgeus jazz singer, together with her band "Banda Sambop" from Brazil. Guess, who was on bass? Yes, you're right, it was the man himself, Ney Conceicao Tonight he was playing a Jazz Bass, Fender probably, Sunburst, rosewood fingerboard. He sounded ace, was smiling all the time, and made it look everything sooo easy.. ... and, I have to confess, after this gig, I'm GAS'ing for a Jazz myself.. Wattaabout the concert, music itself was great, brilliant musicians, beautiful singing from Lenny, I've 'pumped' by that for a few weeks The whole sound was not that good, reverbation was huge, as the gig was in National Philharmonic - probably only classical music sounds good in that venue (oh, how I hate it..) anyway, music done it's job, and I'm really satisfied with it and especially Ney's playing..
