Cygnus x-1 Posted September 11, 2007 Share Posted September 11, 2007 Anybody any idea what size allen key to use to adjust the truss rod on a vintage modified fretless jazz? 4mm seems too loose, 5mm too big. is it 4.5mm? I have a mainly metric set, and one specifically marked imperial Allen key for my MIA which has an imperial 'rod. I'm 90% certain that I didn't use it to do that 'rod tweak, but I'd mail Squier to be certain. Failing that, do what I did for the MIA. Find a local (quality) tool shop and take it in... My local shop were astounded when I popped open the flightcase... The young chap was "offering up" various Allen keys to the 'rod head, when the owner comes over and says; "What a lovely piece of Ash! BigRedX Posted September 11, 2007 Share Posted September 11, 2007 I've just tried my VMJ and 4mm seems to be the best fit, the closest imperial key is 5/32 but that has a bit more play in it that the 4mm. 4.5mm is too big to fit. Looking at the top of the truss rod in a decent light the hole doesn't appear to be completely symetrical which may be why the 4mm key is a bit loose.
