Small powered wedge monitor

Recommended Posts

Hi chaps,

Can anyone recommend a small powered wedge monitor for backline use at small and medium sized gigs?

Basically, the rest of the band all sing and have been using in ear monitors for a while. Because of this, we have been leaving our regular monitors at home because they're a bit on the old, tatty and heavy side and its the drummer who has the gear and the van at his place! The result is, I'm left to pick up whatever wash I can from the out fronts, drums and guitar amp. Its been alright up to now but not being ale to hear things properly is beginning to really get to me (its the principle of it too!), so I wonder if anyone can recommend a small wedge, ideally light and reasonably priced I can look into getting. Failing that I might pursue the in ear approach myself!

Thanks,

Johnny
this might be worth a try - i use one as a monitor when i'm gigging and a practice amp when i'm at home.

mounts on a mike stand or will sit on a flight case

Cheers dude, looks like a good bit of kit, and very reasonably priced too, I'll check it out!

Check out the TC Helicon Voice Solo, just started using this and it is very good. So much so that I will be buying another one using them as side fills and not bother with wedges at all in small venues.

Sorted, I use them as side fills making sure they are just out of reach! :)

Can highly recommend this active 'near-field' monitor by Mackie, which is designed to fit on a standard boom mike stand. Basically it’s the same has the other two, but its got all the controls you need at the front so its easy to tweek the sound while you're playing. I find the 'near-field' monitors a good compromise between in-ear and traditional wedge monitors.

Although this is not a comapny on your side of the pond, this page might give you some ideas.
I like the looks of the Fender wedge, but then again, I have a fondness for Fender stuff. Goodluck.
