OK, so there's a lot of venue-searching going on, so I thought it would be a good idea to whack them up onto one thread with this first post containing things like:

Venue, Capacity, Reccommended genres, Website.

And then for the locations:

England
North-West
Ruby Lounge - Manchester

North-East

Yorkshire & Humber
Cockpit/New Roscoe/Wardrobe/Brudenall Social Club/Faversham/Irish Centre/Rio's/Fenton - Leeds

West Midlands

East Midlands

East Of England
Barhouse, Chelmsford, large capacity,
The Twist, Colchester,
Chinnerys, Southend-on-Sea,

London
The Waterats, Kings Cross (BE CAREFUL!! http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...;hl=water+rats)

South-East
The West End Centre, Aldershot, 200-300 capacity
The Boileroom, Guildford.

South-West

West Midlands

Now I'm a bit of a gigging noob, so I don't really know of any venues that are that good around me. I'm relying on people to post here with venues they can trust. My goal isn't to get 100 venues on here, it's to get the most trusted venues on here. I'll do my best to visit daily here, updating the post as I go!

Yeah, I saw that thread and it's what inspired me to make this one. I thought it would be easier for me to have them all in one place, and then people don't have to trawl through pages looking for a venue. I'm just going to start putting some up now!

Yeah your right.

I'm working on a database at the mo where i'm collecting venues, phone numbers, email and website where available. I'll forward it to you once i've got a decent amount and you can them to your list.

This could be a really good thread.

How about adding The Waterats, kings Cross, London and the Boileroom in Guildford, Surrey. I also think 600 capacity is a bit much for The West End Centre in Aldershot. More like 200 - 300 hundred.

Oooh... contoversial! http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...p;hl=water+rats

The problem with a lot of gigs in London, or central London at least, is that few of the venues do in house promotion so you can be dealing with promoters at the same venue that have wildly different attitudes to bands. Nights at Water Rats are mostly promoted in house by Monto, though several nights a week the venue seems to be hired out.

Personally I'd prefer not to deal with Monto, though others appear not to share my reservations.

Ohh, very interesting reading that other thread. I used to play the Water Rats about 9 years ago and it was ok. Always a pretty good venue.

My new band have been looking at getting some gigs in London but it looks like I might have to avoid the Water Rats now. I did speak to the promoter last week. A guy called Tom Rogerson and he did seem very friendly but it does sound very dodgy there now.
