I don't believe these came in a white finish and from looking at the photos it doesn't appear to be a factory quality finish, so I'd assume this was re-done at some point.

Do you know what the original colour was and why it might have been repainted?

Not sure on the finish. I’ve seen most with translucent flamed maple finishes. I do tend to like white basses so when I saw it I bought it 3 years ago in its current state.

It's been refinished for sure as:

1. It's not an official TRB-6P (P stands for Piezo) colour as all colours were see through.

2. It's more than obvious as the Yamaha logo is not the correct one.

3. It's missing the TRB-6P logo on the ebony plated headstock.

4. It's missing the serial number at the back of the headstock.

5. Here are some photos of one of mine with official Yamaha catalogues extracts.

There are some genuine white TRB's in the wild, as there were two generations of Tetsuo Sakurai models. However, on the most basic level they can be identified by his signature on the headstock.

It's a different bass, different pickups, different preamp, even if the basis is a TRB-6P, and it's called a TRB-S.

The TRB-S was quite close, but not exactly the same bass.

The TRB-SII was a bolt-on iteration and the only one available in white.

Hellzero. It's a TRB6P. Neck through. Same preamp, same pickups, same woods. You can argue about the colour but you can't argue about the bass.

What is your point?
