Increase in complete pedal boards for sale

I've started noticing an up-tick in people trying to sell already completed pedal boards on eBay. These used to be quite rare, I think because the draw of pedal boards is creating a custom collection of pedals so no one will ever quite like exactly the same things as the next person. I've certainly always swapped pedals in and out one at a time, and occasionally updated the board itself or power supply. So why would anyone buy someone else's complete pedalboard - surely it's better value to buy/sell pedals one at a time?

 

The only thing I can think is maybe something has happened in the digital effects world in the last year or so that I missed, meaning that more people are making the transition to multi-fxs (and yes I know one of the below is a guitar board)?

It can mean that someone can get a professionally designed and built board for well below the original cost.

Sadly I suspect a lot of people are skint and need to pull in cash sharpish, selling a pedal collection one at a time is a PITA 😕

Thing is, in even the best case, I'd only really want the board, power supply and maybe two thirds of the pedals, so it would have to be a pretty awesome price to make up for the faff of subsequently selling a few things. None of the prices I've seen so far make it worth it - £1000 goes a hell of a long way designing ones own board!

3. They are in separation from their partner and forgot the pedal board when they moved out

4. (Bonus) They realized tone is in the fingers

5. (Extra bonus) They grew up and started playing upright

Looking at the pedalboard thread on this forum I don't think gigging has anything to do with owning an extravagant pedal board!

 

2. They realized how practical multi effect units are

 

Ironically, and possibly in contradiction to your point 1, it seems a lot of people who do the most gigs use multi fx - certainly the last few stage shows and big tribute bands I have seen have all used Line6 Helix's (Helices?).

They lost their lover, not their love!!

....yes I see the point, although evidence from many years gigging suggests that most of us think we play better when legless!
