We nearly drove off with Keira Kenworthy's gear!

My band played The Great British Rhythm & Blues Festival yesterday. We travelled down in a van together, with all our gear in the back. The gig went well, great crowd, but changeovers were tight. We had 30 minutes to get the band before us off, and for us to set up and start. 

 

After the gig, I had the least to do, just put my basses away and rush to help out on merch. Anyway, stuff got piled up in the corridor at the back of the venue ready to be loaded into the van. It seems Keira had arrived to play with the band on after us, and put her stuff down in the same corridor. Our rather enthusiastic singer/harmonica player had been diligently carrying gear out to the van, including hers, and some of it was already inside when Keira came out looking rather panicked and then annoyed. There was a Mono bag with her bass, a pedaltrain board (already in the van) and a Markbass TTE amp in a bag. Thankfully, we didn't drive off with it all !

Oops. Hopefully Miss Kenworthy saw the funny side and didn't have you all arrested! 

 

It does happen. Our Jerry Lee Lewis tribute from the live show once picked up my glasses in a case and they ended up in his clothes bag after a gig. (I often wear prescription sunglasses on stage with the stage lights.) Unintentional post gig exhaustion/kleptomania!

Could have been worse. At least you didn't nearly drive off with Kiera Kenworthy. Kidnapping is a serious offence which people generally take a pretty dim view of nowadays

Just the thought of that is weird. We're all in our 60's and I'm pretty sure she's younger than my children. Urrgh.

She should have listened to the stage hands. They usually mark a designated area for each band to put their gear.

Surely that should have been a Roy Orbison tribute? 🤓

Ha, you’ve triggered a forgotten memory!

 

As teenagers, we supported a rock covers band in Darlaston. My dad drove us all home to Telford. When the guitarist got home and went to take his £150 Epiphone Les Paul Special out of it’s generic Gator case, he couldn’t believe his luck… It had transformed into a rather ugly but very expensive Parker Fly.

 

A few phone calls later and my poor Dad was in the car on the way back to Darlaston. 

 

Safe to say the guitarist was a mix of relieved and frustrated. he’d only had it a few weeks as an anniversary present if I remember rightly, and had spent about 2 hours in uproar thinking it had been stolen!

I played that festival. Nobody nicked any of my gear. I did it on an acoustic Harley Benton because our drummer called in sick on the day so we went 'unplugged'. Trouble is, whilst the HB sounds great, it has an action you can slide your hand under. Frankly, if you had nicked that sucker, you'd have been doing me a favour!
