LowB_FTW Posted yesterday at 03:14 Posted yesterday at 03:14 I didn't even know what Focal Dystonia was until I saw this earlier, let alone know that Victor Wooten suffered from it, and seemingly has done for many years. I've been doing quick searches about it and I'm seeing articles and videos from years ago where he's talking about it. I honestly had no idea, and for him to still be able to play like he does, I think that takes immense dedication and self-discipline. Mark 2 Quote
madshadows Posted yesterday at 07:42 Posted yesterday at 07:42 I'd never heard of the condition, really interesting to hear Victor talk about it and how he's combating it John 😎 1 Quote
Aidan63 Posted yesterday at 09:30 Posted yesterday at 09:30 have you not read over the last 8+ years why Scott wears a glove ? I wonder if a playing style with lots of hammer ons and pull offs, bends, vibrato and fretting hand tapping might exacerbate it or if there is a genetic component that makes some more susceptible ? Even diet may have a role, Scott has stated being on atkins style diet seemed to reduce his symptoms so he could shed, record and gig more Quote

andydye Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago Oh gosh, Scott has really struggled with it, Victor must have a great coping mechanism Quote

Now I have the full name I know who was being spoken about, but only by name, I've never seen his videos so I wouldn’t know he wears a glove. Mark Quote
HeadlessBassist Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago It’s a sad thing, but he was very brave in admitting that nowadays he can’t play like he used to. It was also very humbling how he sort of named Charles Berthoud as the sort of ‘heir apparent’ who has gone on to expand what you can do with the instrument, where he couldn’t any more. Is it me, or was Victor looking quite gaunt and ill in that video? Quote
