rwillett Posted June 22 Posted June 22 Hi I'm just finishing off my Jazz parts, Fender Jazz neck, Hipshot tuners, Bareknuckle pickups, John East Preamp and a lovely body from a luthier. Some of these bits came from @sifi2112, a true gent. Si painted the body in matt black and I really like the non gloss finish. It's really great contrasted with a white pickguard and chrome preamp. However I want to protect that matt finish. Looked up satin finishes on guitars and after wasting my time with ****'s on Reddit, I thought I'll come back and ask some sensible people here. Any suggestions what I can finish the body with but keep a subtle matt finish. Thanks Rob 1 Quote
Reggaebass Posted June 22 Posted June 22 As above if you want totally matt, I did my shell pink jazz in satin which is slightly more shiny but not as much as gloss, looks great rob Quote
rwillett Posted June 22 Author Posted June 22 I missed one point out in my post. Many people stated that their matt finish became shiny after use so some.parts looked matt and some didn't. I was trying to avoid the shine. Also any particular brands of matt finish recommended? Thanks Rob Quote
Reggaebass Posted June 22 Posted June 22 One tip I would add which was a big mistake I made, obviously spray in a well ventilated area but don’t do it outside, I sprayed mine and hung it up and millions of little bugs and flies stuck to it 😁, I had to re do it 1 Quote
BlueMoon Posted June 23 Posted June 23 Any areas that are shiny can be restored back to a matt finish by using very fine wet & dry paper (2000 grade). You wont see any scratches, especially if you use the paper dipped first in weak soapy water and keep the surface moist while working. 2 Quote
rwillett Posted June 23 Author Posted June 23 (edited) Any suggestions for the matt finish, brands that work please? I didn't know that 2000 grade wet and dry would matt a shiny surface down. That's good to know I'll not spray outside now 😊 Edited June 23 by rwillett Quote
DanOwens Posted June 23 Posted June 23 (edited) You can get spray cans of Matt finish polyurethane from Boyes in Kendal. Edited June 23 by DanOwens Quote
