dave_bass5 Posted September 17 Posted September 17 (edited) Yeah, I use the Finger style preset at home, even though hi play with a pick. My M-Vave Chocolate finally arrived yesterday. Easy enough to set up and it makes a big difference to the GP-5. not quite as versatile as I had hoped, but exactly what I need for rehearsals. I have FS 1 set to engage Drive + NR, FS2 engages Modulation (be it Phaser or Chorus) + EQ, and 3 + 4 scroll through patches. Ive not bothered with the other two switches (E+F). The Amp sim is left on but no Cab sim. I use the EQ block with modulation more to control any volume changes than EQ, although it does help with the Phaser by lowing the low a tiny bit as well A bit disappointed that I have to power the M-Vave for the Host side to work, but as it will run off a phone charger or power bank, and power the GP-5 its not a big deal. the only issue i wish i could sort out is that (as far as i can see) to get each switch to turn on and off an effect ive had to set the switches to A/B. This works well but the GO-5 doesn’t seem to relay the effect block state when it’s first called up. So depending on where the foot switch was left before it can take two presses to engage the block on first use of that patch. Not a big deal, just no ideal. dave_bass5 Posted September 23 Posted September 23 (edited) This got me through a gig at the weekend. Really enjoying the freedom of not tweaking things all the time. I was worried that going for multi effects was becoming too time consuming, as I was playing with it more than I was actually playing at home, but at rehearsals and gigs its the opposite, just set and forget. I could tweak if needed but as it's more hassle I didnt. I used the pedals footswitch as a mute/tuner, everything else done on the controller. This shot was taken at home, we down play carpeted stages 😉 Edited September 23 by dave_bass5 3 Quote

I paid £65 for mine but sent it back, purely to free up some funds, but I’m also itching to try a ToneX (going to sell my Microbass 3 to fund it), but if the offer comes up again I’ll jump on it anyway. Sean Posted Wednesday at 19:01 Posted Wednesday at 19:01 It's back to £52. What's going on? Dynamic pricing! Quote
dave_bass5 Posted Wednesday at 19:01 Posted Wednesday at 19:01 Back down to £52, and when i went to check out i noticed i have £13.99 amazon credit, so total came to £38. Thanks for the heads up. At least i have a use for one of the Chocolate foot switches i brought again. 1 Quote
Al Krow Posted Wednesday at 20:15 Author Posted Wednesday at 20:15 (edited) Ooof it's very tempting at that price!! And has come down from £80 on release six months back. I thought the EQ looked a bit limited in choice, but it has a 6 band EQ and two bass specific option. As well as fx, as others have mentioned, the ability to midi control. It has a drum machine which is currently one of the few reasons I'm holding onto my old and much loved B1-4s (but no looper unlike the B1-4?) Q for those of you guys who have taken the plunge: seems to have quite a lot of drum styles. Does it do different time sigs other than 4/4? Edited Wednesday at 21:31 by Al Krow 1 Quote
dave_bass5 Posted Wednesday at 21:39 Posted Wednesday at 21:39 (edited) Just be aware the drum machine is in the app, not the pedal as far as i can see. it’s nowhere near as versatile as the Zoom IMO, but i feel the amps and cabs sound more convincing. Edited Wednesday at 21:39 by dave_bass5 Quote

That's helpful thanks. I've got a preamp tone I'm super happy with on my GT1000 Core, so I may as well stick to the drums and looper on the B1-4, and sacrifice a bit of pedal board real estate. Quote

I'm going to jump on it then if it does. I've really enjoyed having my little Sonicake Pocketmaster and this thing is the pedal equivalent. And Valeton have promised bluetooth MIDI control, so I'll be able to have it in the effects loop of my GX-100, which will then be able to control it from the dongle! Quote

dave_bass5 Posted Saturday at 16:42 Posted Saturday at 16:42 (edited) Well, new GP-5 arrived and it's going back. No way can I get the midi control working with this one (well, I did a couple of times, but the it stoped). I tried two Chocolate Plus footswitches, both still set up from when I had the first GP-5 (which worked 100%). Meh, ill give Tonex a go. EDIT: User error. I forgot that the GP-5 needs to be powered via USB and not from a mains supply. Edited Saturday at 17:34 by dave_bass5 Quote
jacq Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago I've been playing around with this for the last couple of days. I have Zoom B6 to compare it with, and I can't get anywhere near as good sound on this Valeton GP-5 as I get via Zoom B6. For context, I connect passive Jazz and passive P to the effect and then to the DAI (Motu M2). In the case of Zoom B6, I connect via DI out. I then play via either headphones or studio monitors. The sound via Valeton (I tried all 3 amps and various cabs) lacks clarity, is a bit muffled/dull for lack of better words. So mine will be going back to Amazon. Every single amp on Zoom sounds very good out of the box without any tinkering. I just hoped to have something smaller to put on my desktop. Zoom is amazing, but not very desktop-friendly Quote
dave_bass5 Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago (edited) Interesting as i found the complete opposite with the amps and cabs. To my ears all the Zoom stuff sounds like it has a blanket over it. I haven’t tried the B6 yet though. I do think the Zoom stuff is better overall though. Edited 8 hours ago by dave_bass5 Quote
jacq Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago I had Zoom B1Four before B6, and B6 is much better. I would love the much smaller Zoom device, but with the touch display from B6. Also, Zoom is good enough for Marcus Miller (The first 2 seconds of the video below show the pedalboard he used on that gig): 1 Quote
dave_bass5 Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago I still have a B1-Four, and recently got a 60B+ and compared them to the GP-5. Ended up with the GP-5 for my use. Quote
Al Krow Posted 7 hours ago Author Posted 7 hours ago (edited) @jacq - thanks for sharing that clip with Marcus's PB on it! Here's a screenshot from the YT clip: That's an old Zoom B3n which is the same generation chip and software as the Zoom B1-4 - so it seems it's good enough for Marcus! The newer Zoom chipset is in the B6, B2-4 and MS-60B+. I did prefer the MS-60B+ tonally a little over the Zoom B1-4, but its inability to display the name of the patch you are on (other than very temporarily) and lack of PC editing make it much less usable both for patch creation and live use. No such limitations on the older MS-60B and Zoom B1-4. But no question for me that mid-range multifx such as the GT1000Core are a step up in processing power and the tone they can deliver, but are several times the price of the budget range multis such as the GP-5 and Zoom pedals. Maybe he just likes blankets? 1 Quote
