Rick McKay Posted Wednesday at 07:45 Posted Wednesday at 07:45 (edited) Hi I’ve had this bass for a while and I’m currently restoring it for my daughter to play. She has a Squier P-Bass, but she fell in love with this old thing when she saw it. I have a feeling it might be an old Jedson, or one of the other brands these guitars used. there are a couple of holes in the headstock that seem to have metal in them, as though a logo got broken off. many further help would be appreciated. Thanks, Rick Edited Wednesday at 07:46 by Rick McKay 1 Quote
Pea Turgh Posted Wednesday at 07:53 Posted Wednesday at 07:53 Cool bass! I love an old Japanese mystery. That scratch plate doesn’t look original - would look 10 times better if you made a new one that followed the contours of the body. 1 Quote

It’s got lots of character, plays and sounds great, even before I start working on it. It’s probably only going to need a clean up and new strings. Quote
HeadlessBassist Posted Wednesday at 08:26 Posted Wednesday at 08:26 Looks like a late 60s/early 70s Teisco 'Top Twenty' Short Scale or the Kay version. My money is on it being the Teisco. 1 1 Quote

Mine may well have been hand painted and could easily have been a sunburst originally. This looks like the bass version of my uncle’s 6 string. Thanks! Quote

Same pickups and similar fittings. It's as HeadlessBassist says a top twenty short scale. Kay never made a version like this, and it's not teisco, like people say it is because it bumps the value. Teisco closed in 1968, this was made after that time. Quote
