So my fairly new (bought new last October) and pretty much unused (so far a bedroom noodling toy) EBMM Darkray crapped out on Sunday :(.  It was fine on Friday but when I got it out on Sunday for a pootle the alpha and omega bits no longer worked.  The clean bit still works but when the alpha or omega are engaged - no output.  Blending the alpha/omega with clean just results in volume loss.

Did the normal checks, batteries, output jack connection, leads etc but nothing of note.

Just wondering if any fellow DarkRay owners have had any issues?

The guys at Bass Direct are on the case and have referred it to Musicman so I'm hoping for a swift resolution.

Thanks Warren. I got the DarkRay version because I was specifically looking for a lightweight Ray in Starry Night finish.  There were no Specials in this colour so....

I'm hoping its a circuit swap out at the worst; the bass is lovely......to be honest I'm happy enough with the clean 2EQ but I guess if I came to sell then who'd want a DarkRay without the Dark? :D

Yes, quite. Very tempted by one of those myself, but I have other Darkglass stuff that kind of negates me me buying one. I wouldn’t be as foolish to suggest that I don’t ’need’ one 😂 - it’s just a little harder to justify 😎. I would think Darkglass would be quite keen to resolve the issue as well.

A new pre is now on its way from EBMM via UPS (so fingers crossed…..). Mr Shuker has agreed to fit it so here’s hoping it’ll be fit and ready soon.

Why are Shuker getting involved?

Because the vendor isn’t fitting it Kev.

Trying to keep dirty laundry private until it's resolved, or is there another reason why you're having to arrange your own repair for an under-warranty ~£3k bass?

Bass Direct requested I use my own Luthier and had EBMM send the replacement part directly to me. I will of course request reimbursement of costs….

Seems like an expensive way of doing it, BD used to use and introduced me to a guy based in Coventry for repairs and ive used him ever since, but as long as they do actually reimburse! Surprised EBMM don't have authorised repair shops in the UK.

John Shuker does a great job. At least you have the peace of mind knowing that it's a top repairman doing the work on what is a pretty pricey bass.

Cheers, I’ve used Jon on a couple of jobs before and he’s the only guy I’d trust on a pricey bass.
