Last rehearsal was a weird one. Took a long time to get a decent sound from the studio combo. Not sure if it's been tweaked to my liking, as I have no frame of reference.

Gig on 1st November.

Also, I'm still not sure what the best position for the stand is.

The way I set the stand is to open the legs on the tripod and lock that in place. I then slide the inner part of the stand upwards so its high enough that I can touch the bottom ridge bit with the tip of my thumb and with my fingers outstretched, the top ridge with the tip of my little finger. That way, the first fretting position is in line with my eye line. Hopefully that makes sense. I'm 5ft 9.5" so you might need to raise or lower depending on your height. Make sure you look at the stand and bass attached from behind as you can see if its straight or crooked on the stand as well. As for the angle, I have it tilted back a little so I can see across the board a little, so maybe tilted back about 20 degrees.

What about the stand legs? Do you have one between your feet, or are you stood in the gap?

I'm not 100% but I think I pretty much have one of the stand legs in front of my right leg so that my right leg is between two stand legs. The main thing is as long as the stand leg isn't in my way then that's all I'm aiming for.

However, you can string them with NS Bass/Cello strings (Omnibass). They have a rope core, the same as real DB strings.

Are these lower tension? I'm a bit confused as to how these would feel, if they also suit a Cello - tuned in fifths from G - so are they a bit floppy?

The bass/cello bit is something of a misnomer. The NS Omni bass used to be called the Bass/Cello but was renamed. These strings are bass guitar scale strings but have a rope core as oposed to the solid core on BG strings. That gives a slightly different tone to them. Never tried tuning in fifths so can't advise on that one. I find they give a much better tone, for my ears anyway, than the stock strings that come with the bass. They are certainly not floppy but have a comfortable tension. They are very expensive.

I've been meaning to update this thread for sometime, now that I'm 2 bands, 2 recording sessions, and several gigs in.

I think I'm getting the hang of it. A while ago I took it back to the shop for a tweak, which was the only time I have asked for a string to be raised to make it easier to play!

Most gigs I just DI and it has always sounded great FOH. In the studio I leave it up to the producer and BL. I've said from the outset near enough is good enough for me, in terms of getting close to a DB tone. The sound I get works perfectly for the bands I'm playing in, one being Americana, the other a Post Modern Jukebox type style.

I've also been having fun with a bow, many thanks for help and advice from Nick's @NickA @NickD 😎

The major issues for me are the weight of the stand, and the case not being fit for purpose - lack of protection and uncomfortable to carry, although some tinkering by @Happy Jack made it bearable.

Thanks for the update. I'm still loving mine as well and have been playing it a lot recently.

I agree, the stand is heavy but it's good quality. What tinkering did you do to the case?

Cable ties added at the top of the strap to stop it scrunching under the buckle.
