Sansamp Speaker Sim question

Hi all,

Quick one about the V1 Sansamp (ie the classic version with no mids) to help confirm my understanding.

1) Does the speaker/cab sim operate across ALL outputs (including the parallel out)?

2) Does the speaker/cab sim operate across all outputs (pending above answer) regardless of footswitch being on or off?

Stock photo for version clarification:

Cheers

From memory, the parallel output is a straight output of the input signal so no speaker sim or EQ. It think it was designed this way so that you could run the parallel out to your amplifier and the normal output/XLR output to a mixing desk.

In terms of the other outputs, when then pedal is on (red light on) you can't turn the speaker sim off but you will reduce the added effect by reducing the blend. When you turn the pedal off (red light off) the speaker sim and EQ are turned off and the pedal is essentially bypassed.

You can turn the speaker sim off in pedals like the Sansamp VT Bass DI but not the Bass Driver, either V1 or V2.

Thanks very much! The manual isn’t particularly clear about how intensively linked the ‘Sansamp circuit’ is with the Cab sim, as you say, they seem to be one-in-the-same.

Yepp, it is clear but not clear.

If you turn the blend off, the EQ (bass and treble) still work but the drive and presence don't have an effect.

I owned a V1 for over a decade, but I really prefer the V2 with the added mid control. Both though are great options for an easy to use, essentially idiot-proof good DI tone.

Yeah, got that about the blend, but it’s unclear whether the Cab Sim forms part of that, or whether it’s just a blanket effect on the outputs regardless of what the blend is doing.

Yeah, I got my head around it by just thinking of the whole unit as an 'amp and cab' sim rather than an amp sim and the blend really determining how much of the amp and cab sim you want in the signal. The cab sim can't be separated from the amp sim, though it would good if it did!

It is very much dated technology compared to the Helix and other modern amp sims when you can load different IRs etc. However, it is still a classic for a reason.

The parallel output is hard wired to the input by design. This parallel output is the dry signal from your instrument.

When the Bass Driver DI is bypassed your signal is un-effected and goes through a high quality buffer.

When the pedal is engaged with the Blend off and the tone controls at noon, the signal is un-effected. It is a clean DI with no amp or speaker emulation but the EQ can be used if desired. The Drive and Presence controls will not work with the Blend off.

When the Blend is turned up it starts to add the SansAmp circuit to your signal. Think of the Blend control like a pan pot that can sweep from un-effected to the full SansAmp signal.

(On the Bass Driver DI the speaker sim cannot be turned off when the SansAmp circuit is engaged.)

Thanks for this, very helpful.
