BassAdder60 Posted April 9, 2023 Posted April 9, 2023 (edited) Whatās current or past owners thoughts about the Tone Hammer series amps ? Ā The reviews sound very positive and it appears to be very reliable.Ā Edited April 15, 2023 by BassAdder60 Quote
Lozz196 Posted April 9, 2023 Posted April 9, 2023 I liked mine, I used the 500, 350 and DI pedal for a few years. My only slight negative is that when using the drive the sound became more old school with less highs & lows and I couldnāt get the exact amount of drive/lows/highs that I wanted. A shame really as the core sound without the drive was exactly what I wanted.Ā 1 Quote
chris_b Posted April 9, 2023 Posted April 9, 2023 I was out with my TH500Ā last night, through a BF Super Compact. Many compliments, sort of put paid to the myth that no one notices the bass!Ā Ā I haven't heard a TH700 in the flesh, but the TH500 is a fantastic sounding amp, easy to operate and way loud enough (through 2 BF 112's) even for my loudest band. 1 1 Quote
msb Posted April 9, 2023 Posted April 9, 2023 Aguilar make great amps. They move air, the 500 would probably be all you need , but having headroom is always a plus. Iād lean towards the 700. 3 Quote
BassAdder60 Posted April 13, 2023 Author Posted April 13, 2023 So this arrived today after reading many reviewsĀ Ā Some reviews said they struggled with the Gain / Drive / EQ but Iāve found quite the opposite it sounds bloody amazing even everything flat and drive Off and Gain low. Can go from warm clean to gritty valve kind of tone and a lot in betweenĀ Ā Will put it through it paces at rehearsals and see what the band thinks.Ā Ā Prices have dropped a bit so itās a decent price new for Aguilar stuff and it seems a quality productĀ Ā Ā 8 Quote
msb Posted April 13, 2023 Posted April 13, 2023 Iāve been looking for one to keep as a living room amp. Probably with an SL112. Just for home , a 350 would be fine. 1 Quote

Ā Ā Ā Ā Actually, scratch that, I donāt need the GAS š GK Legacy 800 wasnāt the tone I was seeking ( it was too mid forward to my ears ) and EQ points very different to say AshdownĀ Ā The TH700 is warmer sounding and vintage very much like the ABM600 I guess. Itās not as deep and full sounding as my CTM100 but itās very good at warmth yet clarity remains in the notes.Ā Yet to try it with the band but so far it gets top marks.Ā Fan noise is about the same as other Class D heads but quieter than the ABM600 for sure and the Ā ELFĀ Edited April 14, 2023 by BassAdder60 1 Quote

Ā They are, be grateful. . . . there's a guy over on Talkbass currently trying to find a way of fixing a TH500 that failed. Ā Apparently Korg in the US is a complete shitshow with their current support of Aguilar products. Ā I would imagine they are no better over here. 2 Quote

I have no concerns on its quality at all.Ā Ā I believe the Tone Hammer series has been very reliable since itās launch and thatās good enough for meĀ 1 Quote
msb Posted April 14, 2023 Posted April 14, 2023 The Tone Hammer was introduced around 2011, so theyāve been around for quite a while now. But thatās a crime that Korg are not properly supporting Aguilar. Aguilar customer service was once legend.Ā 2 Quote

Iāve even read stories of poor Ashdown service ( USA ) yet we know in the U.K. they are one of the best companies around.Ā Quote
snorkie635 Posted April 14, 2023 Posted April 14, 2023 Have never dealt withĀ Korg - no need to - but Aguilar customer support was superb. 1 Quote

BassAdder60 Posted May 1, 2023 Author Posted May 1, 2023 So ⦠Iām learning more about this amp in particular the gain / drive / master vol Ā Many very happy users and some using it with gain set very low and master very high.Ā Ā Tried this today and this cleans the amp up nicely and makes the drive control more like a mids tone control boost.Ā Ā Definitely a very different amp to many class D and easy to get confused about the gain / EQ / drive / master relationshipĀ Ā Nice ampĀ 2 Quote
