When are drumsticks not drumsticks?

I bought a box full of 2nd hand drumsticks to use at work. In amongst them there were two sticks which were thinner and lighter. No tip, the same at both ends. I thought they were timbale sticks but timbale sticks they look heavier. What are they? I would post pics but they are in Church at the moment. I am not a drummer but can imitate one and can hold down a beat. We use an electric kit there - mesh heads. Playing it with these ultra-light slightly bendy sticks of wood is SO much nicer than proper sticks. But what are they?
