Hello from the Netherlands

Just a few words to introduce myself: I'm from the Netherlands, though I lived in Sunny Sussex for a while too.

I studied classical guitar (as well as bassoon, composition and orchestral direction, all classical) at conservatorium and taught for a few years. Life (and kids) got in the way, but eventually I started playing more pop and rock and, eventually, bluffed my way into jazz.

After a burnout though I realized I did not enjoy playing guitar anymore and sold all my instruments!

A few years back however I got back into music by playing the melodeon 🙂

Due to the working-from-home situation last coulle of years I realized my world had become rather small and I started longing for making music with others again. So I decided on playing the bass guitar instead.

I was invited to an audition last november without owning an instrument and had to buy a bass only one day before! I got accepted though and now play in a cover band. Nothing much to write home about musically, but lots of fun nonetheless. I also study lots of jazz and plan to take lessons after the summer. My goal is to play at (jazz) sessions and to be able to effortlessly walk my way through the most played standards. And, who knows, one day play the double bass?

I'm well versed in both musical history and theory and also play some saxophone and piano (along with melodeon, guitar and bass guitar).

I am a member of Talkbass as well, but recently got a warning because a post of mine was deemed too political (I merely pointed out a cultural difference, without judging)? That ruined it for me.

The sheer quantity of information on that forum is appealing but I do not enjoy the aggressiveness towards different opinions and general lack of nuance and hope to find a more civilised discours over here. I promise I'll behave 🙂
