Teyeplayer Posted March 5, 2022 Posted March 5, 2022 Hi all,Ā Ā been a guitarist for about 25 years, some of that as a frontman, some of that as a sideman and more recently for a good few years as a bedroom player. Iāve always loved the creative process of writing, so it has always been accompanied by a bit of keys work, half-arsed pedal steel and some very simple bass playing. A recent injury has left me in a bit of pain when playing guitar, but I recently picked up a lovely precision in a trade and itās been a revelation. More than anything it means I can play for more than 10 minutes again, so I have a feeling the future is looking very ābassā. Ā Iāve joined to delve into the world of bass and to tap your knowledge and experience.Ā Quote

Richard R Posted March 6, 2022 Posted March 6, 2022 Welcome aboard!Ā Bad luck on the injury.Ā Basses are generally heavier and longer than guitars, it might be worth you checking out a couple of the excellent resources on how to avoid injury when playing bass. Scotts Bass Lessons and StudyBass in particular are good. You wouldn't want to make things any worse. Ā Quote

Ā Thanks Richard, Iāll definitely look into both of those. anything that makes the playing experience easier is a win. Ā I feel like Iāve over-egged the pudding here so must own up, itās just some carpal tunnel after a couple of falls. Nothing major and perhaps āinjuryā is the wrong term? I am sure it just reflects my middle-age and not healing up the way I did when I was a kid. š Ā What Iāve found is Iām more sensitive to neck shape and am very aware of it when a neck doesnāt work for me. In the past Iād have soldiered on, now I just put that guitar aside and play the one that doesnāt give me wrist ache.Ā 1 Quote
