It is a nice piece of wood, shame that the lower side is not so nice!
so what are the differences between a 51 and 55 then?
55 has the cut away for those of us with a more fuller figure!

But it's not going to be any old 55, no its going to have all the electrics replaced, the neck nitro finish, the body resprayed and some of the hardware changed. And then its going to have a light relic.
I was getting really enthusiastic until the word 'relic' came along.

Each to their own of course but how about using it for a few years and the relicing will be.

1. Genuine

2. Free

Just a thought.
Take your point, I am not looking for something with lumps out of it or body that looks like it has had a orbital sander put on it. The colour of the paint will be aged, and the nitro will be crazed. The rest will come with use.

A bit like this...
i really hope that's a 51 RI :) Cool project though, makes me want to finish my musicman
You can rest easy, it is a good old Crafted in Japan 51RI. Bought from a fellow Basschatter only a short while ago especially for this task.

It should have the paint job done now so I will get some photo's up end of this week.

The body has now been sprayed but has yet to be polished and aged. The neck is ready to be aged and finished.

Thanks guy's, I am very happy with the colour, the control cavity had to be enlarged so that it could take the larger CTS pots, and the Bass has lost a fair bit of weight due to the bodywork re-construction. We are trying out a new process to age the Bass so it will be interesting to see how it turns out.

Hopefully more photo's next week.

I'm confused, why didn't you buy a Warmoth body and sell on the original body to cover the cost? Would have saved all the labour involved in stripping the "mustard" off and re-shaping the body.
