What do you reckon this is then?

I got this off eBay last year as I didn’t have a five string, It needed a bit of work to get it set up properly but it’s now become my go to. I know it’s a bitsa but what do you reckon it’s been made up from?

Old MIM Fenders used to have the tuners arranged like that with the same string tree and no text on the back, might just be one of those with Barts and a Badass.

My 1996 USA 5 string bass also had that 5 on one side headstock but with spaghetti logo and small Jazz Bass lettering.

They’re bartolinis. Could be an original fender body with and then everything else is parts as that decal is fake. The bottom of the neck might be stamped

Yes, it’s active but nothing like as aggressive as my other basses on EMGs. 
The decal is deffo fake I’ll have a look and see if I can find any numbers👍

Bartolinis in a passive Jazz sound great in a band context, like a regular J bass with added thump but still really clear. What circuit does this have in it, is it a Bartolini TC or AGB?

That's good though regarding it being smoother, right? I know it's each to their own but I do like an active bass with a nice sweep of sounds than just having the raw 'metal bass' sound of active 5 strings.

The reason I got it was i was playing in a Doom Metal Band with a much more rounded sound and this was perfect, ironically I never got it back from setup before I left🤣

As far as I’m aware it’s all Bartolini circuitry but I’m not 100% sure.

Honestly, even if it was Monday I'd say it'd been a long week and not sure how I made it to Friday alive 🤣 so waking up without my vices, I'm quite pleased with myself. 

I assume you've tried it on an extra wide strap?

Not yet, I’ve got one and keep forgetting, I get about 2hrs into rehearsals and I’m done in normally🤣
