henry norton Posted January 13, 2009 Share Posted January 13, 2009 I've been given a Behringer Bass v-amp as I don't play live at the moment and don't have the space for an amplifier. I'm dead pleased at being able to listen to what I'm playing now although it's all a bit overwhelming when all I really needed was a headphone amp... Does anyone else here use one? Apparently there's a virtual analogue MIDI synth built in but I'm buggered if I can find it. (plus the fact your bandmates may get a bit miffed if you're looking for certain sounds) I think that if you really want a certain amp sound, then the best thing is to save up and buy that make of amp.If you need to colour your sound after that ,then consider getting seperate pedals or if you are really adventureous -a less complicated effects unit. [/quote] I use mine for recording, I have no space and do not want the volume of a real amp. Ive had the rack mounted one for some years now, and when i first bought it, i couldnt play with out it...but now i find that EQing the amp is enough for me. It's not a bad device for the price. To use it with a footswitch you'll need a MIDI footswitch as the V-amp works entirely through MIDI. That tends to make the footswitch a bit more expensive and complex than you might otherwise want. Behringer do the FCB1010 footswitch, which is a general purpose MIDI switching device but which defaults to presets that work with V-amps. It is completely programmable (MIDI commands) but good luck to you if the Behringer manual is your first experience of MIDI ! (it's actually not too complicated once you get the hang of it). I DID gig mine a few times... but really got 'A' sound I liked & stuck to it after a while ....so I just got the amp.. :-) BUT IMO the V-AMP 's amp models etc are pretty good- especially the GUITAR ones- excellent!! Some of the FX are OK too. I made a great P-FUNK keys bass sound!! I don't use mine now either- but it occasionally comes out so I can prac along w/ a CD w/ headphones!! Good cheap stuff IMO. [/quote] If you're using the FCB1010 with a V-amp then you can "reset" the FCB1010 to a mode whereby it is automatically configured to control the V-amp - no MIDI program knowledge is required. If you want to download presets for the V-amp you need to connect it to your computer. This is easy enough to do but you'll need a computer-to-MIDI cable (either USB-to-MIDI or JoystickPort-to-MIDI). There's software for the V-amp available to download free and this gives you a better user interface to program the V-amp and to load presets. It all works very well but you do need the right cable.
